ASUS P8P67-M Pro not recognising GTX570 in 1st PCI-E slot

Hi guys

As the title says, I am having a big problem with this board today. Since I got this build, about 2 weeks ago, I could not get my PCI-E slot to work in 16x mode at all. I read about the new BIOS solving this problem, so I updated to 0713. Still no joy.

I then asked on a local forum and they suggested I try it in the second slot. I did that, and it was still running in 8x mode. I then put it back into the top slot, but now the motherboard gives me the no-VGA beep if I start it up.

Putting it back into the 2nd slot solves this, but I want to know if somehow I screwed up the first slot? I am no newbie when it comes to PC's, but this has me stumped. I have pulled the CMOS battery and used the reset jumpers to no avail.

And thoughts??

It's probably just a faulty PCIe lane. Did you try putting another card in the 1st lane to see if it works?

I don't have a spare to test with, unfortunately. What would be the best thing to do - I guess warranty would fix the fault? My thinking is that running in the middle PCI port has somehow caused a malfunction in the top slot and now it refuses to work. I'm taking a wild guess but maybe if I source a low-power PCIe card and slot it in the top along with my 570 in the one it's currently in, it will recognise it again?

Solved (kind of)

Found out the slot has physical damage, thus the non-working slot.

Now to face the prospect of being without a PC again...sigh

i had this problem with my GTX 570 but different board, and the PCi-E slot works fine, i tried several boards to find that this GPU is just ****ed.

I hope my 570 is still fine. The motherboard and GPU is about half of the total cost of my rig, so if the boys at Asus do not honour my warranty, I'm screwed. I also have heard about some P67 boards rejecting some models of graphics cards, for some reason

its a UEFI problem, but its very small, i am sure your GPU is fine, i am just pissed at my GPU lol.

Ag ya it seems as if Asus didn't get it perfectly right the first time.

Here is the damage that the couriers inflicted on my new baby :'(

Sin0822, would you mind, if it's not too much hassle, telling me if the second last contact on the 570 is supposed to be shorter than the rest? I'm worrying that the slot stuffed up my card as well, but that I can always just RMA since I have the 10-year warranty and hopefully receive a new one that I know works well

I just looked at a HD 5770 and a Nvidia 7500GT I have laying around, and that second last contact was shorter, just like the picture.

This is proof enough.

I also have a GTX 570 and a GTX 260, but won't bother to uninstall them.
