In need of Help in 1090T @ 4.0

Hello OCN =) Awesome forum here.

Okay, i got a few issues which i need to Fix.

First of all, I'm using a NH-C14, but I was doing the Prime64 Stress Test, and I was getting before even reaching 10 minutes, temperatures as high as 61C, so I figured something would be wrong and turned it off.
I have ~35/36C at idle.

Is there something wrong with the cooling? Or perhaps settings on the CPU OC?

I'm pretty new to OC and it is the first time I'm actually trying to OC the 1090T.

Not sure, but I think the NH-C14 is just not massive enough to handle x6 @4Ghz @1.4v.
Just 6 heatpipes, aluminium, not copper, small sink.. Maybe you just need something more massive Probably vertically oriented, so it'd benefit more from the case air flow.

i think those are good temps nice my H70 give me 64C on full load on small FFT's and 36-38C on idle
try lowering your voltage just a bit, try 1.39 or 1.38.
my 1090T is stable @ 1.375000V

Those temps seem pretty bad to me for water cooling, my Hyper 212+ doesn't go over 42C on load with 1.358v. Or are your ambients just horrible?

At 1.4v hitting over 61c is too high. Thubans do not like to go above 55c. They become very unstable after 55c even if the voltage you are at is good enough. You may have to look into better cooling, or try different fan or fans on your current heatsink to see if you can get those temps down.
I wouldn't worry too much about temperatures. 4GHz will probably require alittle more voltage though, more like 1.45-1.475v.
I would get this cpu cooler it is the one I use.My temps at idle are between 19c & 22c and under full stress test load 50c.

Your Vcore is fine if it'll pass 12 -24 of prime95. Most 1090T's that I've seen will run a 4.0 at 1.39-1.41v Vcore.

You might consider (when your comfortable) trying to run a 250MHz Ref Clock with a 16x Multiplier to reach 4.0. Here's a real good link to help you learn how http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html if you haven't seen it yet. It'll give lots of info on how to OC, plus gives you a real good path to follow.

As for your temps, they are a little high. Most like to stay under 55c for CPU Socket temp when under load. You might try to reseat the cooler or upgrade to the NH-D14 which is one of the finest. Could also try adding more air flow through case.

if your limited to heat...try to lower the cpu overclock to 3.8ghz and move the cpu-nb to 2.8ghz or higher. an overclock of 3.8ghz with cpu-nb 2.8 to 3.0ghz has a better performance boost then an overclock of 4.0ghz with cpu-nb of 2.0ghz. max cpu-nb voltage is from 1.25 to 1.45. good luck. like some just said....keep it at 55c and under. better chance of stability. phenom II gets wonky at temps pass 55c. i dont care what others think...i experience with with the 940, 955, 965 and my thuban 1090t. usually acts up with high overclocks with temps passing over 55c.

Thanks for the input guys. I Appreciate it.

Anyway, I'm going to return the cooler and get something different.

I was thinking about either H70 or NH-D14, I know D14 outperforms H70, and H70 is louder. (And i would need probably to buy better fans)
But I also like the aspect of H70.

Would either H70 or D14 enough for a decent and stable OC to 4.0 using NZXT Phantom case? I mean, I know d14 is better, but what's your opinion?

On the case atm I have 2x side/front 120MM fans as intake 1x side 200M intake, and also 1x front 140MM as intake, and 2x 200M top as exhaust plus 1x 120MM in the back as exhaust.
I would have to remove the 200MM side fan if i get the H70.
