GTX 580 stress testing questions

Thread Starter
I'm currently stress testing my nice new 580 that I purchased at Fry's a couple of days ago and just wondering what settings I should use on the EVGA OC Scanner. I have it set to my main res (1920x1200) and turned off both GPU protections (Temp protect/GTX 500 load limiter), I did not clock on Heavy mode aka increased power draw. It's only been around 19 minutes and so far max temp has been 63C, I'm kind of astonished if this stress test is working properly. My 480 would be over 70C in no time, oh should I enable Heavy mode or no?

At 63c you're definitely not fully stressing it - run a game that is extremely shader heavy such as Metro 2033, or benchmarks such as Stone Giant, or Heaven - you can run into a lot of issues if you disable protections on the nvidia cards. Any of the before mentioned should heat up the card, just run them in long loops and you should be golden!

run furmark to read the temps at full load, use either heaven benchmark or crysis benchmark tool on a loop for an hour or so to test for stability.

Playing BC2 at 75% fan @ 875 core clock with stock voltages [1.088v] averaging ~100 fps max settings, max temp can't even pass 68C. Running more benchmarks and such.

looking good, temps are looking awesome. Have you tried runnign furmark for a couple mins to see what temps you get?

I did for 24 minutes, max temp was also 68C, I did not use any AA though.

Here's the Unigine Benchmark

Is this good? Never ran this benchmark before at all even with my 480. I think max was 69C still using 75% fan. I have to install Crysis before I can use the benchmark, or is there a way around this that I cannot see?
