Looking to improve 3-4ºC CPU temps

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm looking to improve a bit my CPU temps, looking to improve around 3-4ºC.

I thought about replacing my stock Thermaltake FrÃ*o fans and buying x2 Gentle Typhoon 1850RPM, would that get me a nice temperature improvement?

I thought about getting a Silver Arrow, but I do not have such money yet, and I found the GT1850RPM's to be on stock right now, should I go for them?

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
kcuestag

Depending on your current TIM you could opt for some better stuff. That could yield 2 or 3C less. Coupled with a push and pull fan setup that should be 6C off.

Lapping your CPU and heatsink is an option as well. Depending on how convex or concave both are you could get up to 10C off.

I use MX-3 for TIM.

I already have a P/P setup with the stock FrÃ*o fans, that's why I was asking how much temperature improvement I should see upgrading to a pair of Gentle Typhoon 1850RPM?

I'm not looking forward to lap the CPU neither the cooler, just replace fans.

Thank you,
kcuestag.

Honestly, I'd think a 1-2C improvement would be more realistic moving from the Frio stock fans to the GT's. However, one improvement you'd probably notice would be in the acoustic department, as the GT's have a very nice, soft sound signature.

I might as well upgrade to the GT 1850RPM then, the FrÃ*o fans @ Max speed (2400RPM) are really loud... Not to mention I heard their static pressure ain't that good, are the Gentle Typhoon better?

I currently load at 70-74ºC with an OC of 4.8Ghz on the hottest core.. If I could keep it under 72ºC all the time that would make me happy enough.

MX-4 (or Indigo) TIM + Gentle Typhoons (or Kazes!) fans

That should do the trick.

Edit: You are changing coolers every month ? IIRC, DH14 -> Frio -> Planning on silver arrow ? Same for your RIG

Why not get a rasa kit ?

3-4c off when you already have push/pull is asking for a little much I would think... especially if you're only replacing with 1850RPM fans.

+1 on lapping. Take a razor to the CPU/HSF, hold it upto light and see how concave/convex it is. It might be worth it; just read up and take your time if you decide to do it.

I would not void warranties physically..if you know what I mean...These SB chips are known to degrade (was it ever stable, we don't know) so I would like to be able to RMA it if something happens.

Haven't seen any 2600k degrade with voltage lower than 1.4v.

I should be fine, I always keep mine under 1.35v.
