Sandybridge time. What motherboard? ..And RAM?

Well, I'm getting a 2600k from Intel's Retail Edge, and I have been so against upgrading for the pat months that I don't know too much about SB. Considering I'm getting it so cheap, I thought why not.

What I want:

ATX Sized
1 PCI-E Slot or more.
1 free PCI slot (Assume all PCI-E slots have double slot GPU's)
USB 3.0
Sata 3.0
Above average overclocking (Maybe like +4.6Ghz?)
I'd like two sets of USB 2.0/3.0 if possible.

I'm hoping to spend less than $180.

You can shop at:
www.canadacomputers.com
www.ncix.com
www.newegg.ca

As for the RAM, I plan to get the cheapest 8Gb kit I can get from a repeatable company.

Only thing that has caught my eye is this:

GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

A comparison of all the boards can be found here: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...omparison.html

I would suggest an Asus P67 Pro or a Gigabyte P67 UD4 because these both the most reliable brands (imo) at the best cost : performance price point.

Also for the P67 Pro here is a decent combo on newegg

The motherboard you selected is slightly lacking the the VRM department, but other than that it looks solid.

Here is a Gigabyte Z68 board with SLI, 2 PCI slots and all the other goodies for $129 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128502

I just recently got an ASRock Z68 Pro3-M and have to say the Z68 chipset is the way to go. You still get overclocking features using the K series chips and you also get the added benifit of onboard video and you can use Virtu for trancoding tasks.

The onboard video is OK. It will do HDMI and Blu-Ray. As for 3D games, unless they are older, you would need to run at very low resolution. Benched 4800+ in 3DMArk06 @4.2GHz and a slight bump from BLCK to 103 and using 512MB RAM.

I at least like the option of not having to have a video card and be able to use the embedded GPU that I paid for in the chip itself.

And for overclocking, I really didn't take the 2500K I have in my Z68 far. I set multi at 42 and auto voltage and its working flawless. I know my 2500K will do 4.6 in my Sabertooth but just haven't run it hard yet in the Z68

The Z68 you linked requires a Video Card. I'm sure you plan on using one but I kinda think if you're going to go Z68 then you should at least get the onboard video option.

As for memory, I have never had a bad stick of G.Skill. For the price I think its the best stuff around. I've been using their memory with all my builds since '04
This is what I'm currently using and for $85 its not a bad price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231416

Yes, the non pro cannot SLI/CF, but I would get the pro even if you don't "plan" on sli/cf.
