Is it necessary to water cool mobo?

Does it make any big difference at lowering temps by water cooling the motherboard chipsets?

Its more for the VRM area, but watercooling the Mobo can increase stability an OC headroom if you know what your doing.

This.

I've only had two motherboards that had hot chipsets, but that was a few years ago on AM2+. If your motherboard overclocks well but gets too hot it could be viable but don't expect much other than a temp difference.

EDIT: Wait for a review on the Corsair H100 unless you're making a set from scratch. As long as air coolers can't beat it I'll be planning on getting one!

Looks but can be effective when your case is very full.

Tons of tubing and other items impedes air to the mobo. So it can be effective at that point. It can increase your oc headroom as well if done right.

If you meet any of the two cases/needs above you can obviously spare the extra cash. But for most of us, air cooled will be enough.

Thanks everyone! I'll leave the water cooling for the CPU and GPU only and save the cash.

Yup savevthe cash. Today heatsinks cool the nortbridge fine. You only need to cool the mofset when using extreme voltages. it is definitely eye candy only.

And nobody mentioned how it often screws up your flow rate because motherboard blocks tend to be the most restrictive of all waterblocks because of the narrow and winding path they take, unless you get the kind that use heat pipes to bring heat from other components towards one central heatsink with a higher flow rate.
