Which 6970 for Crossfire? - Page 2

Wow guys thanks for the quick response! And they will be stacked if i want them to both be in the 16x lanes, otherwise one will be 16x, one 8x. As far as CrossFiring is concerned, I've never done it. I imagine I just plug in both cards, attach the bridge, and vola! (?)

Don't expect great temps on the top card with the cards stacked.

Use the X8 lanes, not a huge difference from 16x to 8x. You will not even notice it unless your running multi hi res monitors. Even then slight at best.

The heat issue is a far bigger concern.

Well I run 2 24" HDMI monitors. So with one plugged into the 8x lane I won't take a loss of quality?

2-3 FPS loss at most.

That isn't much of a downside considering how much lower temps will be without the cards being stacked.

Your accelero is a three slot cooler, right? So it has to be the top card. The lightning is a standard two slot cooler, so you'd be using 5 slots. You're not going to have much choice how you set it up, right? I say use 16/8 if it gives hou the most space. The lightning is great, but by no means silent. Over 45% on the fan is audible to me. You'll need the fan to run in the high 60% range at least to keep temps around 70 with heavy gaming with only 1 gpu in The case. Keep that in mind while considering airflow.
