I'd also like to make sure the board I use has some kind of feedback for failures as I'm not incredibly hardware conscious (yet).
All computer hardware is susceptible to failure even when brand new, it's the inherent design flaws that cause more failures than normal that you should worry about. With that said you should consider who is more likely to post customer reviews, people who are happy or people who are unhappy because of a DOA which happens to all brands and models of computer parts, especially online delivery as per the danger of being roughly handled from the warehouse all the way to your house.

It's much cheaper because it's the micro-ATX version.

I always look at the PWM quality and the ability to run 8x8 sli/xfire and the overall appearance of the board. also higher end MBs usually have more features such as dual bios, more SATA III/USB3 ports. the better MBs usually have a more thought out layout of ports/components.

Ahh! Ok, I'm sold on the ASUS. I think I pretty much have my build hammered out. I'm post what I think I'm getting when I come back form dinner.

I'll throw this one out there while I'm gone: Buy a small SSD now or wait until November/December and get a larger capacity?

Ur gonna want a 120GB+ ssd if your going to be installing multiple games on it. Small SSDs are great for OS/programs but will fill up FAST with game installs

Or get a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive.

I have the 250GB version for my OS, programs and games, it boots and loads programs much faster than my Western Digital black (in sig)

I've considered those before...but they are far from being as fast as a SATA III SSD,or a good SATA II for that matter.
That being said they do offer fast access to frequently use programs and represent a good balance in size/speed/$$
