Well, I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but it went kaboom again, with the GPU fan spinning really fast. I'm just going to RMA the motherboard and hopefully that will solve the problem.

It probably is a mobo problem, but lets check something else first (to find the source of the problem can be very tricky). Start the pc by using only one ram stick. Download 'furmark'. Install and run it. Notice the gpu temp increase and the quality of picture you receive. Look out for artifacts.
