[Tom's] XCOM Returns to PC, Consoles as FPS in 2012 - Page 2

I have zero interest in this. This is an example of a company trying to cash in on the goodwill of an established franchise to sell more units. They take "X" first person shooter, stick the name of a well known but old franchise on it, and boom, they sell 100,000 extra units. Pathetic.

1. Its not tarnishing anything yet. Jut be happy its coming back

2. X-com, syndicate and fallout were the pinnacle of pc turn-based-squad-simulation-combat, but that was a decade +. You can't be mad at devs trying to innovate and experiment. part ofme agrees with you but I would stop FAR short of calling fail. Especialy since the game isn't even out yet.

3. Don't try to fake credibility by assuming that you speak for, or have the same opinion of other fans.
Woah, calm down. It is a first person shooter. To think this is in anyway a real sequel to X-COM or is anything other than an attempt to sell more units you are way off base. None of the original creators have ANYTHING to do with this game.

Its like the latest Castlevania game, Lords of Shadow. It started life as a totally different property when Konami came in and said "hey, we'll publish your game if you call it Castlevania."

This game may be good, it may even end up being great, it still isn't an X-COM game.

How you can tell me to calm down when I'm the voice of reason and patience is beyond me. I just don't see the reason for a rush to judgement. Whatever happened to "don't knock it until you try it."?

Are you guys in an ocn competiton to call fail or sellout the fastest and most times? A handful of the same folks keep polluting the new game threads calling fail for practically every game that doesn't 100% copy the fomula of the prequel. Then you'll call fail when devs aren't original, innovative or creative.

Then you same guys will call fail when another game copies what's good from another franchise. Seriously, some pc gamers are SO whiny

I am a fan of the original XCOM.

I am open to the idea of an XCOM shooter. I mean, XCOM was a cool universe, a could see a shooter being set in it being really cool.

Now i would want it to be pretty sandboxy, like the original. Lots of different missions, alien terror attacks, small/medium/large etc either landed or shot down. Lots of tech to capture. It could be a really cool game, i would want more FO3/GTA than halflife.

if its halflife with the XCOM name, call me uninterested.

I expected you to say as much. You're the King of PC-snobs. You turn your nose up at EVERYTHING, 6 months before it's released because that's what's hot....that's what's goin' down in the streets right now...

has nothing to do with that. It has everything to do with the game being an FPS not a TBS game. Along with the fact that it has 0 to do with the original games, much like how the shadowrun game really had 0 to do with shadowrun. They arent following the lore, they are doing anything with the original games other than the name.

Nothing shown for the game has me say wow, thats original and entertaining, they are really taking a chance with this game and creating something unique. No they are creating another shooter to be pandered to the masses. The trailer honestly made me think homefront only against Aliens. ........

Quite frankly, i dont care if you respect my opinions on the matter or not, i have 0 respect for the gibberish you post here anyhow, which leads me to even further not care about your opinions on any subject.

Don't knock it until you try it. X-com: Apocalypse was TBS and it was terribad. I still played it b/c i was a fan but the game was mind numbingly tedious with missions every 3 damn minutes, running out of supplies after every mission and the game/engine was coded like hot garbage. I bought it around release and it was experiencing slowdown like what you might expect when your computer can't hang with the game but I tried to play it anyway. About a year ago i pick up the CD and say, 'I wonder what it runs like right now...' HOT GARBAGE, STILL!

Its a reboot of the franchise and it looks like the premise stays the same. There's nothing wrong with them rewriting a new set of lore, within reason. It's not like the original X-com's didn't have a huge plothole with the fact that everyone seems to forget about the aliens and alien tech 50 yrs after they damn near take over your planet. I mean, WHO DOES THAT?! Did they defeat the aliens each time and then decide to MiB Neuralize themselves of the whole ordeal?

LoL the trailer was bad but like i said before, why rush to judge? Why not wait until it comes out. If it's garbage, it's garbage.

I'm intrigued to see where it goes.

If you guys are skeptical though and want a remake in the same styling of the original you should check out Xenonauts.

http://www.xenonauts.com/

It's still in development but it looks rather fancy.

Seriously, dude?

How is the premise even the same? From what I can see in the trailer, we're not even fighting aliens anymore. We're fighting piles of goop with shotguns and pistols while wearing clothes from the 60s. This might as well be a first-person shooter of Ghost Busters.

I've beaten the original X-Com, Apocalypse, and Terror From the Deep, and I don't even understanding what you're basing your rant on.

Look, I don't even mind that they made this a first person shooter, but where are the bad ass aliens from the original series like the Chryssalids? Those dudes inject eggs into human hosts that turn them into rabid zombies and once you kill those zombies, guess what? Another egg laying alien freak of nature bursts out of the remnants of a human corpse only to start clawing at your face. Only way to win against em? Kill em' before they can infect civilians. That would've been an amazing first person shooter mission.

Or what about the genetically enhanced, hulking behemoths known as the Mutons? There is a ton they could have done with that. Even Ethereals and Sectoids that have insane mind controlling abilities... There is just so much potential to make an awesome FPS.

But what do they do--they make us fight black blobs in 1965 with pistols instead of having us use high powered alien technology that has been reversed engineered. Really? That's just a slap in the face.
