[Tom's] XCOM Returns to PC, Consoles as FPS in 2012 - Page 4

Yeah, I've been following Xenonauts development and it looks pretty amazing. Turn-based and decent graphics but nothing over the top with a classic X-COM feel. PC Gamer just did a preview of the alpha build and it looks promising.

As for this XCOM (relabeled from X-COM, cuz SyFy... I mean hyphens are just nerdy, rite, rite?) it's just your standard console shi*! They are trying to make a quick buck from the IP. That's all.

Note: This FPS shi* is getting really fu... I mean getting old. It was reaching pretty ridiculous heights of stupid back in 2008-2009 but now it's just unbelievable. Halo/CoD/console crowd have plenty of dumb shooters to keep their puny MountainDew/Cheetos soaked brains distracted, why shi* on one the most memorable PC titles ever. Although, the PS1 release of X-COM UFO Defense was nice back then compared to the original DOS version. However, PS1 version was just a straight-up port of the PC/DOS version, turn-based and all. They just prettied up the gfx and added some nice intro cinematics.

I'm not saying it'll be good, or bad. I'm disappointed it won't be a turn based squad combat game. All I'm saying is stop with the exaggerations. It may suck or it may rock but let the game come out before you bash it. Hell, let us get more than a 2 min clip that shows 4 aliens over the course of 5 seconds before you start talking about what it is or isn't.

Here you are, you've seen 2 min of the game and you're whining about what it doesn't have....HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT DOES OR DOESN'T HAVE?! It's a year away from release!

Jesus. People today have no patience, always rushing to judgment.
K, I linked the 2k Games site trailer which showed an early release of what they intended to do with X-Com. This was a very early release of the game when 2k initially announced that they had planned to bring back the X-Com title. It's a completely different trailer than the E3 version.

The 2k Games trailer that is linked in the OP's article is the newest 3 June 2011 release of the upcoming X-Com series. The premise, the game play, and what is being fought has not changed since the initial trailer--it only shows an extension of the same concept. Is that really so hard to grasp?

And look man, why shouldn't I wait to judge?

I didn't have to wait for the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie to know it's going to be bad, and I don't have to wait for the next Call of Duty game to know that's going to be bad too. This isn't any different, and both trailers, both made months apart from each other, only serve to validate that the fundamental concept of the game is not changing and that they are firm on this notion.

I love the majority of what 2k Games releases, but this is just bad.

Correct. Sometimes you don't have to take a spoonful of that warm gooey brown stuff, get it all inside your mouth, lips smacking and everything, to know it's 100% certified shi*!

This ain't precognition or ability to see the future in some mystical way, just plain old common sense based on experience and a bit of logic.

Console gaming industry is about 10-15 times as big monetarily-wise than PC gaming industry at this point. It was nearly 10 times as large back in 2007 as per this article. Devs and publishers are going to go where the money is, and in this global economic downturn nobody wants to take chances. FPS genre and consoles are a safe bet. Heck, XCOM was titled to be a console-only release until relatively recently. For one, if they started out with a console-only title in mind, you can pretty much deduct their reasoning (maximum profit above all else) and therefore the quality of the title itself.
