Freezing Issue - OC Phenom II X4 955 @ 4Ghz

Thread Starter

I am trying to oc my Phenom II 955 to 4Gig using x20 Multiplier. I have tried oc using the FSB/Core/base clock but cant get it more then 220~225 or start crushing. Also changing core clock will change the RAM, NB, HTT clocks which I will rather not.

I have tried manually setting cpu volt to 1.37 ~ 1.44 but cant get it to stabilize. If I leave the volt on auto, mabo sets it to 1.44 and stabilize much longer then setting it manually (can't understand why!!).

Stress testing with prime95, the system freezes after about 45min. but the system passes linx test 20 times or IntelBurnTest passes at max. i have also tested the memory using memtest86 pass 7 times the i turned if off.

I read on other threads that freezing is related to temp, but my cpu core temp never passes 50C!! But the "Temp3" in speedfan does reach to 60. But could not found any documentation to what component is the "Temp3".

I know I'm dong it all wrong by mixing up the memory and not oc NB but is that why it is freezing? Btw I will not be using the system for any gaming, just 24/7 use.

You need to set everything manually if you change FSB, and you dont need 4.0 for an office build. Stock is more than enough

Have you tried more vcore? IBT is not the best stress test compared to prime 95

4GHZ is quite a goal for a novice overclocker, isn't it? Perhaps some baby steps and guide reading is what you need.

I would say to start out slow.don't try for 4 GHz right at first.Try small at first. Also increase your northbridge and try to get as close to 3GHz as you can. Also keep in mind that you always should try to keep the HT as close to 2000 MHz as you can.Keep in mind doing all of this you need to increase the different voltages to ensure that you OC is stable. Also look around there are all kinds of OC'ing sticky posts that help you with your OC adventure.

Good luck and have fun

More vCore and you may very well blow the unheatsinked 4+1 VRMs on that mobo... (using the 2007-2008 design with no problems). i don't recommend overclocking on it.

Ask BWG. On a motherboard (785GM-US2H) with the same VRM design, he experienced problems overclocking a Phenom II quad core processor.

Like he said------But you could buy these to help you VRM'S cool off.

Thanks for the suggestion. here comes the stupid question, how do i change the vCore? attached is a picture of the bios from the mabo manual. Should i go in increasing CPU volts to increase the vCore?

So its the mabo then!..? I'm guessing then the "Temp3" on speedfan is coming from VRMs?
