Wrong. The cores are real, they just share more resources than has been common place.

Also, Intel's HT is done completely in hardware.

If it's actually faster, there are piles of applications that will benefit.

The obvious answer would be by doing less work per clock. Though one can always hope for some sort of massive efficiency boost somewhere.

You cannot directly compare clock speeds between different architectures.

I remember when Netburst chips were clocked 50% higher than AMD K7s and K8s, in the same power envelope.

It's quite distinct from hyper-threading, as HT is all about making more efficient use of a single pipeline, while BD modules are about reducing the transistor counts of independent pipelines by having them share more support hardware.

I don't know the performance of Bulldozer at this point, but there is nothing inherently flawed with the idea of sharing a powerful FPU unit between cores.

Similar integrations have happened before, and generally have increased per-transistor, per-watt, and even per core performance. Multi-cored CPUs have shared the same busses and L2 caches for a long time, and this was a very beneficial change. The same potential exists for the FPU.

Awesome. I never said BD wouldn't beat SB.

they are physical but not fully independent. that is why it should be considered as a hyper threading. also few years back, amd states that next get will have ht. there are even early charts that are saying that bd is 4 core unit + ht.

yes it is hardware, but its creating logical cores. amd cpus will not do that. that is why ht is considered as hardware and logical (while both are hardware )

These specs said that, which is why I'm saying its fake!
Guess what, I totally agree with you.

If BD is to equal or slightly surpass SB, then needing 4.7ghz is not good.
If BD is to really surpass SB, then 4.7Ghz is not a problem, but AMD going from C2Q perfs to >>SB perfs in one jump is quite unlikely.

This means nothing to me until I see some benchies with Multi thread performance aswell as clock for clock against the competition. The rest, all meaningless until then. Make me proud AMD I know you can do it again
