Put this Rig together or am i kidding myself?

Ok, so I am nearly to the point of being able to complete my build but need some more advice. I do a lot of multitasking several apps open at once including Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office and have normally a lot of windows open at once on the web. I haven’t been much of a gamer since Duke Nukem went on hiatus years back lol…but will probably start after this build is done. I have bought parts little by little as money has opened up. If I can I might try to use some existing components and upgrade them later and put this rig together. So far I have collected the following new parts.. 2600k CPU, ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Motherboard, & Memory (G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1600 (PC3 12800) 8-8-8-24.) I assume using my current HD (WD 250 GB sataII ) and my DVD burner (lite on sataII) wont be an issue. I would like to use my existing case temporarily, but will need a new PSU. I notice most popular psu’s have the fan on top or bottom this case vents from the rear & doesn’t have the newer wide open area in the rear for plug & switch as today’s case’s have. So would I have to get a new case now since a new psu will be bought? & also would my current 7600gt video card even want to work in the rebuild? If not what would be a good budget GPU that would work? Like I said, I am trying to put it together in hopes of using it as I continue to upgrade. I would like to have a new case but what is everyone doing, now that USB 3 is out & many of the cases don’t have the internal connection for the new mother boards. I hate to spend over $100 on case now when I think new designs will be out soon. Let me know what you think of the build so far & give me some ideas on using some of these current components or should I just wait to get it all bought first?

You can pretty much install PSUs whatever orientation you want so that should work with your case (pls post what your case is). 7600gt should work. And for budget vid cards, you can try 5750s or 5770s.

I dont even know what it is anymore its 4-5 years old now. Its a mid tower has a vent on the side panel with an adjustable duct to the cpu. Its well vented for designs from back then but i dont see a makers name on it. I baught it in a bare bones package from tiger way back then.

Sapphire's 5770 is a namely budget GPU, good price for performance if you're not looking for anything that will blow your mind. Should run most modern games at medium settings pretty well.

As far as a case goes, the Cooler Master HAF 912 is a pretty good choice, it's cheap and is nice for building. If you're willing to wait a little while for the case, the Corsair Carbide Series is looking promising, but hasn't hit shelves yet.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Ok i will check those items out. Ive looked at alot of cases though I hate the looks of the hafx but was ready to buy one. I like the features but when i seen the lack of internal usb3 I thought i would wait. I like the looks & features of the phantom but same thing with usb3. Im looking to buy things as keepers for a bit so I though those designs would be better. Dust filtering is a big issue i want in a case as well as looks & function. As far as gpu i want something to help multitask but wont break the bank.

Standard ATX PSUs will work in any regular case. As long as you don't buy some really weird case you should be fine.

Dust filters such as this one can be bought if you need them. I wouldn't worry too much about dust filters being included with the case.

500W Silverstone Strider is a great PSU to power that build, and will fit any ATX case.

That haf12 would it be a dust magnet ya think? All i think of is seeing dust bunnies in all them holes. But i know it would prolly function well & would be an alternitive to my budget to purchase that & a good psu for it for a higher end case later. I know with this current case my cpu cooler options are very limited. As far as the 7600gt vid card i have would it work in win 7 x64?? Just trying to see what my priorty & within my budget should be.
