SSD to SSD Migration

Thread Starter
Evening folks-

I am about to migrate my OS SSD (Samsung 470 128 GB) to a new SSD (Samsung 470 256GB). I am looking at various software suites to assist in migrating the OS (actually entire drive) from one SSD to the other.

I am looking for a cheap or free but effective software for this migration.
I have been looking at

- Macrium Reflect (free)

- Paragon OS to SSD ($20)

What can any one recommend about these two softwares? I hear Paragon is really nice and efficient, however, I am cheap and wonder is Macrium will be sufficient to get the job done?

Thoughts please-

Bman.

I've used Macrium Reflect free for several moves, and it was very pain free experience

So - with that being said, all I need to do it make an image of the drive, save it off to another local HDD. Restore the image to the new drive, change the BIOS boot priority to the mew drive first and then wipe out my old drive?

I used Intel Data Migration software. It's free and got the job done for me.

Yep. That way should work fine.

I did mine by saving image to external USB drive, booting off recovery CD (reflect free has an option to make one) and then restoring to internal HD.

The real question is what are you afraid of?

I would become S.M.A.R.T and let the drive decide its fate. Giving it blew up and stopped working if you went either way. Honestly support your economy and pay the 20bucks and be certain Paragon is effective. Then try the free to conclude the differences!!

20 is not alot of money. I think in the long run a bad drive is more expensive to replace....

Good Luck!!

Ha - Yeah, 20 isn't much, that's not the issue. I am just not a big fan of throwing money out the window. $20 would buy a nice 12-pack of beer, you know. I have plenty of freeware that outperforms payware, I just want to be certain this is not the case. Given Paragon was free two weeks ago.... irks me even more

I have little worry any drives are going to blow up.

Chances are, I will just drop the cash and move on.

I just wanted to say... $20 well well spent. Paragon OS to SSD totally kicked this task in the knees. Literally swapped and did all the drive work (change MBR / active partitions) all on the fly. Took 8 minutes and done. Nice.

Thanks Paragon!

Nice. I have read there can be issues restoring to SSD where image isn't lined up properly (can't remember where I saw it). But the same thread mentioned Paragon being able to line it up correctly. I might have to try it

Okay I lied about not being able to find it:
