We all know the 5d 2 has been out for quite awhile now, and the 7d is getting up there, Do you think they will release new ones in time for holidays?

I think the new 7D will be a 7D MKII. It's too early for a new 7D, maybe late next year.

The 5D MKIII, now that has a possibility of releasing late this year or early next year. Just by the production cycle of it.

The 1Ds MKIV is long overdue though.

No one knows for sure, that's for certain. It's just guess work at this point, but Canon Rumors suggests that the 5D MkIII will be out as early as this summer. 7D MkII is even more nebulous.

If you're holding out for either of these cameras, don't. Camera bodies are viable for quite a while and aren't analogous to computer hardware. A lot of people still use older 1D series cameras and xxD series. And price drops are never as good as anyone expects with new camera model releases.

I would not expect to see an 8D ever (where does that fit in?), but I think a lot of people are secretly holding out for a 3D. I would count myself as one of them -- I almost nabbed a 1DIV yesterday, but I just couldn't stomach blowing that kind of money.

I doubt camera equipment follow the trends console or other tech devices, especially pro grade camera equipment. I don't know the nomenclature for canon, e.g. 1ds better than 5d or is the 7d better, but the one thing I do know is I doubt most significant others are going to drop $6-8000 for a holiday present, rather the people who buy these camera do so no matter what time of the year especially if they make their money from photography.

People have been talking about the phantom 3d since the 5d I came out.
The camera does not exist and canon probably has no plans of ever calling a camera a 3d.

An 8D would be a lower model than a 7D. In the xD series, the lower-number bodies are more feature-rich, i.e. 5D vs 7D.

An 8D is extremely unlikely, as it would infringe on both the 60D and 7D very heavily -- there's simply no room in Canon's lineup for such a body. The "3D" refers to a camera that theoretically slots in between the 1-series and 5DII -- it's feasible to produce, and would likely be very similar to Nikon's D700 in features and abilities -- something the 5DII doesn't really match.

Rumors swirl here and there about the 1D line being full-frame only, and slotting the 3D in where all the APS-H bodies left off.
