A question relating to dual monitor output

Thread Starter
I currently have a PC in my office connected to a 23" LCD via an ATI 5770 using DVI.

I also have a sound card in the system connected to a 2.1 speaker system.

I want to move the monitor to a better viewing location (wall mounted) and pick up a small 18.5" LCD to put in the original spot (where the keyboard and mouse reside). That way I can watch movies on the bigger screen at a better viewpoint but still have a monitor to work off of in front of the keyboard.

So the questions are:

If I connect the smaller monitor via DVI and the larger monitor through HDMI (easiest cable to use as it has to be about 8' long), will my sound still run through the asus sound card into the 2.1 speakers if I switch over to the HDMI output for video?

As you can see in my office pic below, I have the 23" LCD on the right. I am going to wall mount it on a flexi arm up over top of my laser printer, move my 2.1 speakers down below it (with the sub under the desk) and then grab a cheap 18.5" for the original spot it was in. I find I keep pivoting to watch movies while on my main PC and its become a bit annoying.

Yup, it'll work no problem. But if you do find that audio is being transfered through the HDMI cable, you can easily change it to have it use your 2.1 speakers or HDMI. In control panel>sound>playback, you can set it to use your speakers/HDMI by default.

And if nothing is showing up in the window, right click in that window and check "show disconnected and disabled devices." (somewhat similar setup/idea to mine fyi)

Dual Monitor setups ftw! Nice and clean setup you've got there
