OCZ RevoDrive X2 Looking For Insight

Thread Starter
Thinking about picking up one of these as they are 100 bucks off right now:

OCZ RevoDrive X2 OCZSSDPX-1RVDX0160 PCI-E 160GB PCI-Express x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I was thinking of upgrading to a nice Sata3 SSD but then remembered that I don't have any onboard Sata3 on this older board. Did some more research and found that none of the other X58 boards have Intel controllers for Sata3 and they can't push the speeds of the new drives.

So I thought of upgrading to P67 but just seems like too much to spend for a faster SSD and a good SSD plus a decent x4 controller card is more than the RevoDrive x2.

Seems like a good solution for me as I could carry it over to my next build as well.

If you can throw some opinions at me it would be great. Thanks!

I am personally against additional SATA controllers. Waste of money. The speed improvement they give is insignificant and not very noticeable in real life. Plus, you most likely will lose TRIM. So I would suggest running the SSD through native Intel SATA II controller until you get P67 or newer board in the future.
