Help me build complete new rig.

post #1 of 23
Thread Starter
I've got around $800 saved up from my job and after buying a new car wanted to finally upgrade my system.

So I was wondering if this was ok;

Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115211

ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131665

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104183

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

So that's about $730 after tax and all.

I'm using this pc for all my gaming for like Witcher 2, Dirt 3, Fable 3, Mass Effect 2, Metro 2033 etc, etc. And I want it to be alright for future gaming for the next few years cause the one I have now is getting a little outdated and want it to be ok to run future games in the next couple years and still be upgraded if need be.

I was going to upgrade my graphics card to a 6870 on my next paycheck and thought that the 6870 would be good enough for current and future games to run pretty well at 1920x1080?

Any help or advice or coupons would be nice haha

Ohhh and will this also fit into my Cooler Master 690 case? Or would I need something bigger?

EDIT: Or this build;

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072

ASRock P67 EXTREME4 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157229

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V

is the i5-2500k pretty good for heavy gaming over the 950? Will saving the like $50 or whatever the price difference be worth it?

thats $50 dollars more toward a gpu upgrade, which is what matters for heavy gaming. and 2500k can overclock very high

u can get a 6950 with the extra money and try to unlock shaders to 6970 i think.
