Asus good for overclocking? (non ROG)

Thread Starter
I've been looking into another motherboard. I bought an asrock (yes I know asus sub-company) motherboard, and it died in 15 days on my AMD 555 unlocked 4 cores @2.6GHz. Stock cooler then. Temps were fine the entire time it ran, but then it stopped posting. So I RMA'd the board, and installed liquid cooling while it was out. Replaced the board, unlocked all 4 at stock 3.2, and it died on reboot.

Long story short, are asus mobo's like this any better?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131660
I'd like to unlock all 4 cores and actually use my liquid cooling without my motherboard dying when it's reported to handle a 6 core...

Thanks!

EDIT: I'd like to keep the price under $150 as I just lost $90+ on the board and shipping back and fourth and can't even get a second RMA. Also, no ROG as I need a block or blue mobo to go with the look.

id be carefull with the board you've linked theres no cooling on the vrm's at all, so with you overclocking there going to get extremely hot and chances are burn out in the near future, you can get universal mosfet heatsinks to install yourself
but again another flaw of the mobo is that its only 4 +1 power phrases heres a link that'll help you understand the importance of cooling your vrms etc http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherboards/946407-amd-motherboard-vrm-information-list.html

this mobo for the same price would be better has vrm heatsink and is a 8+2 power phrases here's a link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131402&cm_re=evo-_-13-131-402-_-Product

Any motherboards that are good under $150 and preferably are blue or black(on that order)? The only real requirement is being able to unlock my AMD 555 to a quad core and unlock. I can add cooling if needed. Case is decent for cooling, and mosfet heatsyncs are no issue at all.

or this one would be more future proof... am3+ cpu's ready so you wont have to buy another mobo in the future if you decide to upgrade to bulldozer if and when it arrives http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131733&cm_re=v_evo-_-13-131-733-_-Product

It'll be a long while before I go BD I think. My AMD 555 is a HUGE jump from my sig rig which I've had for 2 years (adding parts here and there). I'll go for that board if someone can assure me it won't die if I run my AMD 555 unlocked and overclocked to 4GHz assuming that I add mosfet heatsyncs.

550W PSU, Offbrand, but worked fine in a friends 6 core AMD system stable as heck (tested all my components in his system to verify mobo dying) GFX is my 8800GT Alphadog 512MB in my sig rig. It's not much now adays, but it's PLENTY for the gaming I do. It runs portal 2 at max settings 1080p, and I don't need any more at all.

only thing id be worried about is that off brand psu it might say that its 550w but more than likely it'll definately be alot less it'll be giving out, never skimp out on a psu it'll cost you more in the future if it dies etc...

something like this will be perfect http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027&cm_re=500-_-17-139-027-_-Product

I'm only pulling MAX of 300W in my system. It's really overkill. Only reason I bought it was it was modular. I've used offbrand before and they usually turn out alright if you overestimate the wattage. Not saying for EXTREAM overclocks it would be best, but for 4GHz quad core, I don't see it being an issue really. Just comming from my tests in the past. I'm not really new to overclocking, just new to AMD overclocking (I have a BE, and only use the unlocked multi ATM), and am generally really careful with voltage and cooling. I care about my components for the most part, and try not to hurt them too much. Not to say I won't bump volts a little as I did in sig rig. Safe temps and still in the core2 safe zone.
