HD5830 Clock settings not sticking.

Thread Starter
I have been trying to overclock my HD5830 for some time now with no success.

I have used Afterburner(with and without the "unofficial overclocking"), auto-tuner on the catalyst drivers, manually setting them and tried using rivatuner (doesn't support my card....).

I have also updated drivers, downgraded with still no success... ~edit~ i have removed uninstalled all drivers... rebooted in safe mode, removed all drivers, restarted into windows and re-installed.... nothing.

I used cpu-z and afterburner to measure the clock speeds but they're running at a measily 400core and 900 memory under stress and at a temp of 65c...(157/300 50c)

I have compleatly run out of ideas and im not going to do a fresh install.

Running win7-32bit
If i need to provide more info please say so....

Just played witcher 2 for half an hour, fan speed is at 90%, but core clock and memory clock are sitting at 400/900.... yet i have it oced to 900/1200.... is their something im missing or not doing right (bout to perform ANOTHER restart)

Reboot, clocks went to 600/900 for a short time, droped to 400/900 then idled at 157/300.....

Here is an image of all the programs running and what they show...

whattheprogramsshow.th.jpg

Clocks are now running at 600/900 when stressed but that is a far cry from the 900/1300 i have set am i just misreading it, is it working at intended or is my card just ****ed.

If you hit 'reset' in Afterburner, do you at least get your 'stock' clocks when viewing the AB graphs and running a 3d app in windowed mode? Also, try something like Heaven benchmark in windowed mode for this test I'm describing, rather than ATI tool.

AFAIK, during gaming, not everything is run in 3D. There are many times that 2D is used - from cutscenes to menu's, to times between round loads - and if long enough, they can cause the card to drop to idle. I suspect this is what is happening to you with your current card.

It doesn't happen with all cards, but it does happen and it is crap when it does.

I have the same problem with my current PowerColor 5850's, but didn't have the problem with my Asus 5850's and so far I have found nothing that will fix the problem.

i managed to worm a result using ati tray tool.... but i blue screen if i don't reset to default clocks before going onto youtube (guessing cause it's trying to go to 400/900 clock settings)

And un-nefer, i played witcher 2 for a few hours the other day with gpu-z running to see if it would kick in, i also set it to "high" graphics, bit laggy and it still only went to 600/900, using ati tray tool, with clocks set to 850/1100, no lag so at least i can get it to work now...

@windmaster - Their is no brand listed on either of my boxes, besides "amaze" and i couldn't find anything about those cards when sifting through google.
