Looking for a Laptop for Gaming, etc.

Thread Starter
Hi, I will be going to university this autumn and am looking for a laptop, at the moment I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that I have upgraded with a T7300 but it has the dreaded inel GMA . . . needless to say I haven't found a game that works with it.

So, the criteria

Decent graphics
Long-ish battery life ??
Quick
Decent RAM
Looks nice !

Are there any obvious laptops out there that would fit?

Thanks

No such thing as long battery life on a gaming laptop. The video card will eat up all the power from the laptop's battery.

It really depends on how much gaming you plan to do. I.E. what do you plan to play and at what resolutions and at what FPS are you expecting? If you want pure gaming you can't get any better than Sager. If you're looking for the longest battery life then Lenovo and Fujitsu are difficult to beat.

IMO go full out desktop replacement or go pure battery life. You can't have both on a laptop. Otherwise you can get the average consumer laptop which there are plenty out there.

I know how you feel. But if you give us a price range, it will be much easier. I personally recommend Sager for the pure value you get. And also the Asus G series laptops look pretty badass but the new G54 and G74 models come out in July. Go to XoticPC and look around.

Nothing with great battery life while gaming. You're probably looking for a Sager NP8150 equipped with a GTX560m and Nvidia's Optimus tech. I'd hold off until August and see if there is a price drop/sale. Possibly Asus/MSI may offer something similar between now and then.

Main thing is that you can afford to wait at this point, so go to notebookcheck.com and familiarize yourself with the hardware out and lurk on sites such as xoticpc, newegg, and bestbuy to watch the prices as long as you have time on your side.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions, I will probably have around £1K so thats about $1600.

As I am in no rush to get it now, would it be better to wait then?

HP Pavilion dv6 is pretty good for gaming, Quad core, 5000 series ATI HD graphics and 4GB of ram, they arent bad on price either - i get about 1 and a half hours out of my battery on it when gaming which is pretty good in my opinion and i havent found a game yet that it wont run.
