How do I configure this system please?

OK folks, heres the situation. ATM I have my sig rig, minus a CPU and monitor, so Im moving to a Dell AMD 3800+ system (not the most powerful system I know), But im just wondering How do I go about configuring it all?

I need to move a gtx 465 across and an ssd and hdd, the SSD is in raid 0, the hdd is in raid 1. How would I go about moving all the stuff across?

many thanks.

Plug it in as you normally would, but make sure the PSu is big enough.

As to moving the RAID, the new controller should be able to recognize the array if both drives are plugged in.

I don't quite understand your other inquiries, what do you mean by moving a 465 across?

It looks like you set up hardware RAID for the SSDs, so unless the Northbridge/Southbridge on the motherboard you're moving to is exactly the same, you're not going to be able to recover that array.

If you set up the RAID-1 in Windows, I think you *might* be able to plug them in and have Windows see that they were in the same array, but I wouldn't count on it.

As far as the GTX 465 goes, just install it and latest drivers (provided the rig you're moving it to has a PSU that outputs enough power for it).

i dont think the raids will work because of the drivers and the raid controller. as for moving them across you can try but put them in samer port as on old board. the gtx 465 just plug an play, part from reasonable psu to power it all

apologies, I know what to do with the 465. My main concern was over the SSD and the HDD, Can i simply plug all 4 drives in the new system and hope it just magically keeps the data and recognises the new system?

That is indeed your best bet. It's up to the controller. Plug em in, and see if it'll be recognized, but if they don't, well crap, you're outta data.

I was kinda thinking that the raid 1 config shud be fine to just plug one drive in, as thats mirrored for security, whereas the ssd is raid 0 so the data is split across the two drives...in which case ill have to somehow backup the SSD data onto the hdd then move it across after setting up the drives in the new system?

Perhaps, though I'm not sure how Windows RAID-1 handles each disk. Your RAID 0 set up is pretty much useless unless you can mount it on the same motherboard you set it up on.

hmm is there anyway I could create like a backup image of my ssd raid and then burn that onto a disc or just save that on the hard drive and in the future or on the new drive I could open that up and get all the data off?
