First Build

Thread Starter
What do you think of this build, and what improvements could I make? This would be my first ever computer build, and I'm also edging to get into the world of overclocking.

I think it's good.
Please tell what you will use it for so I can give u comments
And what you NEED from it. (stability, durability, overclock, etc)

If your going to get into overclocking, I would suggest a full tower case, like one of the HAF CM cases. It will give you better internal air flow.

I would also suggest getting a better CPU cooler!
Top 3 in my book are:
Thermalright VenomousX
Prolimatech Megahalems
Noctua NH-D14

Then some other memory. DDR3-2000 will give you more room to overclock. Some good brands are:
Mushkin
Corsair
G.Skill

For Video overclocking, I would not got with a GTX570, as they have a bad failure rate, when overvolting. You should go with a GTX580

The last thing I would do is consider getting a higher wattage power supply. when overclocking, you will be using up to, or over 70% of that 750 watt PSU, so I would recommend at least a 850 or higher wattage PSU.

All of this, is considering "if" your get into overclocking!

Or you could go with a CM 690 II case, which is still Mid Tower but has spaces for up to 10 case fans, or more with a little modding. It's Mid Tower but has excellent air flow and it is one of the best price/performance ratio cases. It is very highly recommended here on OCN. When I made a thread about which case to get under $100, almost everyone recommended this one or the CM Storm Scout. The HAF 912 is also pretty good.

If you don't care too much about extreme performance, check out Microcenter's AMD CPU + Free MB deal. You buy a AM3 CPU and get a MB completely free, or for $10-20 extra if you want a better board. There are some damn good boards there too!

Also, you could check out the reference HD 6950's, as I hear you can unlock the shaders or flash it to a 6970. You can find reference 6950's under $250. I'm not too sure if the GTX 570 performs better than the 6970 or not.

OP you need to tell us what you are using this rig for

If just for playing games you can buy a 2500k instead and save yourself some money. Also im pretty sure the OPs 750watthx will be more than enough for his build.

You can't go wrong with a full tower case. If you ever decide to water cool you got room for some rads or alot of case fans for air cooling.

Build looks great. I do agree with the full tower. These behemoth graphic cards limit space.
