Mmmmm... Don't like X2 cards... heat, power consumption :S
I think OP is fine with non-reference 6950 or 570. (PLEASE GET A NON_REFERENCE 570-VRMs can explode on reference PCBs.)

If gaming at 1920x1080, a single 6950 will keep you happy in basically any well-written game (Crysis 1 still chugs down the newest and fastest cards because of how it was written; Witcher 2 can't be played on Ubersampling level by any modern card at 60fps as far as I've heard).

I've got crossfired 6950s, but don't need it without my eyefinity (it's up at school, I'm home for the summer and could only bring one 27" 1080p monitor with me). A single 6950 2gb will do very well, a 6970 is good, but honestly I'd stick with a 6950, absolutely the best bang for buck around. If you're unhappy with it, you just go out and spend a few $$ on an aftermarket cooloer, and boom, you overclock to 6970 speeds and you're still out drastically less money than a 6970 would have originally cost you.

My 6950s can do 900/1375 in their sleep, though they do benefit from having aftermarket cooling. The MSI FrozrIII 6950s are very popular.

Definitely agree. Don't bark up that tree unless you're going eyefinity.

At 1920x1080, the Nvidia gtx 570 and AMD 6970 are about equal. If you want it particularly for BF3, I would grab the nvidia I guess just because the report is that DICE uses nvidia, so it may be optimized more for that.

Thanks To add to that, quite honestly, in terms of power consuption and heat it is better to (example):
Spend $500 on GTX580 now instead of $1000 on SLi.
Then, two years down the line, get the newest NVidia chip at 500$. You really DON'T need SLI unless you will have more than 1 monitor at 1080p. At least not for the next 2 years.
My 9800GT from Jan'09 could run most games at 1280x1024 at high (not maxed) settings with no AA. But, my CPU was bottlenecking it and my case had crap airflow :S

Probably the best 570 out there at the moment.

The funny thing about 6950s is that I haven't seen one that won't overclock to a 6970's speeds, that's why I always recommend the 6950 2gb. The price is significantly lower than 6970s or 570s too. I was never a fan of overclocking, but now that I've unlocked the performance of these 6950s, the bang for buck out of them is fantastic.
