First Intel Build Help

Thread Starter
hi, i'm pretty new in the forum as i'm also new at this whole world of PCs (i come from xbox) and i was planning on building a custom computer... i picked the pieces myself and had a few questions. here are the pieces:

-AEROCOOL SIXTH ELEMENT (Black/Blue)
-700W AEROCOOL V12XT 80+ VENT.13.9CM MODULAR
-8 GB ( 2X4 GB) DDR3 1600 CL9 CORSAIR VENGEANCE
-INTEL CORE i7 2600K 3.4 GHZ SK1155 8MB (i'll maybe overclock it)
-AM2/AM3/775/1155/1156/1366 DEEPCOOL ICE EDGE 400XT
-1280MB EVGA GTX570 PCX DDR5 HDMI Graphics Card
-LG DVD-R/+RW GH22NS40 22X SATA (Black)
-MOTHERBOARD INTEL CORE i3/i5/i7 ASUS P8P67 DELUXE B3 SK1155 DDR3 PCX
-1 TB SLAVE SATA2 SEAGATE 7200 32MB
-LOGITECH G110 GAMING
-LOGITECH OPTIC LASER G9X (Black)
-WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL 64 BITS OEM

Total: 1.655,48 €

Ok, my questions are:

1. i need this PC for gaming (battlefield, moh, mw3, minecraft, tf2, counter-strike) and for Video editing and some GFX. should i change anything? is it too much for me?

2. the HDD i want is ''slave'' do i need a ''master'' or can i keep it that way? can i put a solid state drive in my case? do you think i should? (i have a 1tb imac so i'm not desperate fo too much memory)

3. Is it hard to overclock this processor?... i have no clue on how to oveclock and i don't want to fail. can i ask the guy in the shop to overclock it? (there's a build asistance included with the price)

Well that's it, i just want to be sure of what i'm buying and hear some feedback.

the shop where i'm getting the components is PcBox (i'm buying it in the shop itself)

I agree with Andr3w on the ps, cooler and hd

As far as the overclock on the asus board, just use the AI utility software that comes with it. I have mine running at 4.42 ghz with zero issues.

• if you can afford that card, buy it! it is slightly too much but it will be good for future games/application. if you want to save $, buy 560 Ti
• change hdd to momentus xt - hybrid drive with speed of ssd and space & cheapness of hdd. other option is 64gb ssd with cheap hdd
• 2600k is easy to oc. follow this guide and you will be fine
• buy a better cooler like h50 h60 h70 nh-d14 depending on budget. or wait for h100 ^^

sorry not sure I agree,

you will regret dropping down to a 560,

and those hybrid drives seem a bit new to trust, I would stick one in a laptop. But since a desktop has 4-6 sata ports I really don't see the point

ok, so i've been building another computer... the specs are:

-NZXT H2 (white)
-INTEL CORE i7 2600K 3.4 GHZ SK1155 8MB
-LG DVD-R/+RW GH22NS40 22X SATA (Black)
-MOTHERBOARD INTEL CORE i3/i5/i7 ASUS P8P67 DELUXE B3 SK1155 DDR3 PCX
-600W CORSAIR SERIE GS GAMING 80
-AM2/AM3/775/1155/1156/1366 NOCTUA NH-D14 6 HEATPIPE 2 VENT
-8 GB ( 2X4 GB) DDR3 1600 CORSAIR VENGEANCE BLUE EDITION CL9
-2GB ATI ASUS HD6950 PCX DDR5 HDMI-2 MINI DPORT
-LG DVD-R/+RW GH22NS40 22X SATA
-120GB 2.5'' CORSAIR SSD SATA2 (they sell it as master...)

so... some new questions:

1. is 600W enough?
2. still don't have a clue what ''master'' HDD is...
3. is the memory beter... and is the case better? it looks sexier XD

thanks again...

ive seen a review on the NZXT H2 and it looks crap, the NZXT BETA EVO is better if they have it. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHcyWTorjdU[/ame]

I would use the HX750 mate, 600 will be ok tho

ok... look in this shop there's only certain cases, getting other cases may rise the price of the computer and i am already begging for that money.
so here are the cases, they are the gaming/modding ones, i won't list the ATX, micro-ATX and barebones...

-AEROCOOL STRIKE-X
-NOX COOLBAY DEVIL EDITION
-THERMALTAKE DOKKER DOCK STATION
-AEROCOOL CYBORGX
-AEROCOOL RS4
-NOX BLAZE HOTSWAP
-NZXT HADES
-NZXT PHANTOM
-THERMALTAKE ARMOR A90

that's the ones i'm interested in... + the ones i've listed in older posts.

now, why would you get 750w?? i mean, i want something that will be capable to power everything at 100% power, i don't need 10% extra **** in elecricity bills...

anyways, thanks 4 your advise. could you also tell me if the memory is good? and what the heck is ''master'' HDD??

oh BTW this case got a silver award in this forum, and rather than in the video you have posted the rest of reviews give it a like... just an observation, i'm the noob here XD
post #9 of 18
the psu will only deliver the power it needs it wont be giving 750 all the time, the hx750 will probs be more efficient than the gs600 on your spec there.

If the phantom is the same price as the h2 or affordable get it instead.

Pretty much all Corsair memory is good mate, the corsair vengeance blue will be fine.

most important thing for new rigs: plan for future upgrades.

psu: i look at the type of motherboard. since your motherboard has so many slots, you're likely going to add another graphics card, sound card, etc. in the future. so 600w is not enough. try for 850w+ also things to look out for are modular & non-modular psu. modular = easy cable management. non-modular = 99% of the time very messy with extra cables everywhere.

memory: check the latency (ie CL7-8-7-24 & CL9-9-9-24). the lower the better. so 1600MHz CL7 > 1600MHz CL9.

case: check video reviews. things to look out for (either than looks) are: space. is there enough for cable management? airflow. are you going for silent pc or performance/noisy pc? (personal)power button placement. i like my power button high as the case is on the floor. if it's on table i will likely search for low power button placement. easy to access ^^ color. white = can't see dust. black = see dust everywhere tongue.gifscrews. more thumb screw & tool-free clips = win. oh yeah, noise insolation material rocks.
