Limewire doesn't just install. I guess "The amazing racist SPIKE" was there the whole time too. If the virus is stopping applications opening, its a fairly bad one. I'd just reinstall Windows, its likely the virus may have effected other things too.

My brother and sister use this computer as well as I. My sister likes downloaded limewire and my brother is 12. I'm not reinstalling windows. If you have nothing better to say then take the lazy way out then your advice is not needed.

I can then only recommend you teach your brother and sister how to use the computer safely as they have managed to download some pretty bad viruses.

Hows the scan going?

It wasn't them, I'm pretty sure I got the virus. It happened today and I was the only one on it today and the last one on it last night.
the scan is better though. Jumped up to 77% completion with 1 infected file smile.gif

Part of the scan is on my SSD, but not most of it. Can you post the log when it finishes scanning?

Ive seen several computer's this year become infected by some of these rouge program's, without any action on the user's part.. and the moment it suspect's you of removing, it corrupts your user account, or prevents any program from opening.. i couldn't even open file explorer as it said it was a virus (obviously not). Shouldn't be to hard to remove, run malwarebytes in safe mode, and if it cant remove it, then look for a Registry editing guide and get reading .

This virus seems similar to the one i had to remove about a month ago...
Just boot into safe mode, run malwarebytes and manually remove the files and then remove the entries from the registry (make a back up first).
This should solve it, if malwarebytes doesn't pick all of it up at first, wait 24 hours for the definitions to update, and it should then work.

Having to have remove 2 of some of the worst rouge fake anti-virus programs this year from my friend's pc's, i can say that you should be able to get your computer back to normal without the need for a reformat.

Is the OP behind a hard ware firewall as well as a software firewall?
