Best AM2 3 way SLI motherboard ?

Thread Starter
Hi, my old asus m2n32 SLI motherboard broke down because my second GTX 280 video card (bottom PCI blue slot) would not fit correctly and a set of capacitor kept the video card from sitting right. Anyone ever heard of that problem before ? It worked for couple years...but finally broke.

I'm looking for a new one. I plan to have (3) GTX 280 card to 3-way SLI and later upgrade to Quad-core AMD processor. I've read and so far the Foxconn Destroyer mobo looks to be the best option, but its damn hard to find one for sale at a good price. Is there a reason for that ?...or actually all AM2 slot mobos with 3+ SLI options are hard to find for good price.

Would the Destroyer be the BEST one or any other good options/easy to find/good priced mobos for a 3-way SLI mobo ?

You're probably better off holding on a little. Which exact chip are you running?
You could consider an AM3 or AM3+ board, all it would need is new memory, assuming your chip isn't an AM2 only one.

This.

if you're getting two more GTX 280's then you should either go Sandy Bridge or wait for bulldozer to drop.

I'm running a AMD 7750 dual core BE, (4) 2GB corsair dominator DDR2 Ram, Corsair 1000HX power supply, (4) sata hard drives. It was the best system I could buy at the time and my first custom build system. Yeh I thought about upgrading the whole system to the new AM3..but then I would want DDR3 ram + new processor...which is at least another extra $300-$500...not to mention later on purchasing another GTX280 card (another $150+). So i figured just replace the mobo for now. Wait until a good deal for a quad core CPU and GTX 280 card comes along and I should be set. I mean my last set-up was fast enough already... I was happy with the M2N32...it ran with no problem for years...but the stupid set up isn't made to take another dual slot video card (others be warned !!). I should have returned it at the time.

I actually found a brand new foxconn destroyer board for $180. Suppose to be in OEM packaging (http://www.pcplanetsystems.com/abc/p...1&item_id=4022) . What do you guys think ?

You really going to see hardly any performance boost with that 7750. I had a 7750 with 4870 512mb CF.

Imo, get a 5xxx AMD card or something like a GTX460. Those 280's don't support DX11 and by the time you upgrade mobo and CPU. You cards will be even more rated. Now you solved 2 problems. Save on the mobo and save to move to the next system even sooner.Just my humble opinion.

if you can wait, and if you got money, wait for upcomming 990fx boards. most of them will get native sli support.
