Newby: Hiren's problem

Hello,

I hope I'm in the right section.

I've just made a Hiren's 10.1 boot disk to backup the hard drive with ghost and then expand the C: drive (Seagate st3120022a 100+ GB) as it was configured too small (13 GB) for the operating system (XP) and updates . It's 6 years old and I expect it to run somewhat slow but it runs as slow as molasses in winter and figure that 10 extra GB could only help it, now and into the future, from its current 600 MB of free space. Problem is that the boot screen hangs when loading the Hiren's boot CD. The boot order is configured to boot from the CD drive at startup and I don't see anything else in the very limited configuration and options screen that could be holding it back. I can open the CD in windows and everything looks fine.

Could a more recent version of Hiren's (or earlier version) get past this hiccup? I will be trying a later version of Hiren's but don't want to burn more CDs than necessary and then find out that I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Any insight and help would be appreciated. Tanks.

Try adding noacpi to the boot perameters. Some of those older machines can be finicky.

Tanks for the suggestion but it was not an option in the boot menu. The more I think about it the more I convince myself to try Hiren's in a flash drive instead of banging my head against the wall to break through.....hope that works

Can anyone suggest me a way of adding noacpi to the boot parameters to boot from a cd? (aside from the boot menu)

I can only assume that this is a possible fix to boot Hiren's from a cd and to avoid the system from hanging ....am I right to assume that I can sidestep this fix for my problem by trying to boot hiren's from a flash drive or is this sidestep "solution" another kettle of fish?

tanking you all ahead of time.
