Overclocking E8400... need help

After the first few months of trying to OC this, I gave up. It worked in the beginning (got it at 4.05GHZ, running somewhat stable, found out after a while that it wasn't so stable... Uncompressing files would error out, so I went back to stock 3GHZ)

Now I would like to OC it again but after trying to get to above 3.75 my computer doesn't boot. So Its now at 3.75GHZ @ 1.3V. I think it might be stable not sure, will test it out now.

Not sure what to do now. Am i suppose to change the Permance Enchance or anything on the ram?

I did do some timing control, I set CR to 2T in bios (I heard thats good). I did a memtest86 and it was fine.

Should I change any of hte CPU termination PLL or reference

Here are some images of my Bios and CPU-Z: *changed voltage on ram to 2.1V cause it wasn't posting without it.

E8400's hit 4Ghz with ease.

Wow in the first picture always keep your PCI express freq at 100 Mhz not auto.
You should try 5-5-5-15 or 5-5-5-18 for your rams timings.
Your cpu vcore should be raised to 1.4 (1.55 vcore is recommended by Intel, not more!) that makes sure the cpu stays stable.
If your rams are not stable after these steps and you oc your cpu at 4 Ghz you can raise the voltage up to 2.2 v (for rams).
I think your pc doesn't boot now properly because your PCI express freq isn't at 100 Mhz and that is bad for video cards when you overclock your cpu and rams so don't let it on auto.

Set these settings:

CPU Vcore = 1.xxV (what chip needs for that speed, every CPU is different)
CPU termination = 1.30V
MCH Core = 1.30V
DRAM voltage= 2.1 << ALSO VERY IMPORTANT

DRAM timings= 5-5-5-15 (if doesn't help then 6-6-6-18) << RAM IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR STABILITY

Good Luck

CHEERS..

Alright changed PCI to 100MHZ
DRAM Voltage, yeah I figure that one after windows wouldn't load properly

How to test if RAM is stable?
I lowered my ram timings a bit to 5 4 4 15 and it seems okay
my Frequency is always above 400mhz though... Thats not good right since this is a DDR2 800

I changed it to 2.00D so the FSBRAM is 1:1 and not 5:6

It seems okay right now with my CPU at 3.7GHZ.

I tried 4.05 again and it was a no go with the current settings

I will try and up the voltage now for Vcore termination and MCH Core.

Thanks all let see how it goes

You can test your rams with memtest http://www.memtest.org/,testing 6 hours will do it.
You can test your cpu with prime (6 hours will do it)
MCH vcore should be raised up to +0.1 or +0.2 i can't give you advice on Vcore termination.

Your rams are ok in 400 Mhz,thats the way cpu-z shows you,as long they are 400 Mhz it multiplies by 2 and it's 800,so your rams are in stock now,you are good,cpu-z mesures the rams in DDR not DDR2 so it displays half of your real ram freq, when you overclock your can see at memory freq in bios that your rams are 800 or 1000 or 1200 as you play with system memory multiplier.
Good luck.

No my RAM MHZ was like 500MHZ or 440MHZ is that okay to be over the 400mhz mark.

Well it still won't go to 450 x 9... 440 x 9 worked but got an error on one worker within 2 minutes of prime95 rounding was 0.5 expected less than 0.4

Temp is about 61 on load // 40 on idle

Ram is at 5-4-4-15-2T @ 2.1V, seems to be running fine

I think the main problem is the CPU

I'm at 3.96GHZ @ 1.4V (CPU-Z showing voltage at 1.33-1.35 on load)
the termination and mch voltage is at 1.3 - Nevermind.... The above froze windows and booted me out

I'm at 3.91 @ 1.35V now and testing - Didn't work either... Gave error in prime 95

[Currently Testing]
I'm at 3.8 @ 1.35V (CPU-Z showing voltage at 1.28-1.3V)
Looks good so far

CPU-Z RAM INFO
RAM frequenct = 423MHZ
FSB: DRAM = 1:1
5-4-4-15-2T

You need more juice for the cpu, more voltage, you need to hit 1.43v in windows so that means more in bios.I have to go to work so i will reply later,we will solve this problem.

Alright I'll try that tonight let see how it goes... I think I went to 1.5V and it still didn't work
