I run with a Xonar DX and it is leagues ahead in sound quality and depth than the onboard Sabertooth sound.

Your posts are almost too ridiculous to respond to.

I've already outlined in earlier posts a number of reasons why a user would think he was hearing better sound from a sound card. If you were qualified to post on this forum you would be able to think of them yourself. In fact, go ahead. Take a minute and try. I don't need to hear what you come up with. I'd just be happy to know that you were thinking. You should enjoy it too.

Next, I can hear difference between headphones. I've also made that clear in plenty of posts.

Last, straw-manning what I say only admits frustration on your end, which is fine. I have more experience than you on this topic, so it's completely normal that it happens. If I were arguing with someone who had more experience than me on a certain topic about that topic, I would get frustrated too. The best thing to do when that happens is shut up. For example when ChineseKiwi makes a post I mysteriously disappear. AND IT'S OK.

This is already getting out of hand...nobody has more "experience" unless they can legitimately back it up.

I can understand getting a card and forgetting about one. There IS a difference, it just isn't always heard. It's like PhysX. If you have the funds to spare, and are interested in adding to the experience (no matter how small), I say go for it. But it's not mandatory.

On that thought...does anybody have experience with USB-connected audio boxes? How do they rate compared to slot-mounted solutions?

"I've already outlined in earlier posts a number of reasons why a user would think he was hearing better sound from a sound card."

Please, enlighten me. From where I'm standing there are two options.
1. It sounds better
2. Placebo

I like your condescension by the way, it's just a little ironic. Is ad hominem really that much better than strawman?

You mean like a USB DAC? I've got a FiiO E7. Their main advantage is that they're outside of your computer and away from all the noisy electrical components of your computer. Also they're portable, which is great.

BUT

I'm not sure if there is a difference between the FiiO E7 and the ALC889 in my computer. If there is, it's definitely not worth the $80 I paid. There is a pretty huge difference between it and the SIIG Soundwave 7.1 PCI in my dad's computer tho. That was worth the $80

And as for you Narzon, I'm too lazy.
