Can I use my monitor this way?

Thread Starter
My TV is broken and is waiting for a part to fix it.( 3 weeks out)
Can I hook up the xbox to my monitor using an HDMI cable with an adapter to the DVI connector on my monitor?
I know I will get no sound, just want to know if it will work.
I would have to get the HDMI cable, but I could use it once I got my TV fixed. I was always planning on getting the cable, but now I'd be way more motivated if this would work.

Yep. DVI and HDMI use the same digital signal. It will work perfectly.

They are both digital signals so they are fine. Now is it was VGA with DVI/HDMI/DP then that would be a problem then you would need a analog converter box.

Cool guys, thanks.
Now I gotta get typing for a non $40 6' HDMI cord.
It's ridiculous you can't buy a way overpriced HDMI cable locally.
Oh well. Thanks again

Monoprice.com has great deals on some cheap and hard to find parts. Take a gander.

You could always get a HDMI to DVI cable w/a headphone port cable like

It's kinda expensive but it does include a headphone jack to RCA adapter and headphone jacks on both the HDMI and DVI connectors.
