Q6600 temps with prime 95

Thread Starter
Hey guys im new to OC i was wondering if i could get some suggestions with my temps. The idle temps seem fine, they hover around 28-30C. I ran prime 95 for just a little while and they were up to about 63C on core temp and 53C on speed fan(Speed fan always showed 10C less? idk). Does this seem harmful to the processor at all or is it fine? It is running at stock settings at 2.4 ghz and its a stock cooler that came with the dell xps 420 case. It was only running in prime 95 for about 5-10 min before i shut it down.

Any help would be appriciated,
Thanks!

Same thing happened to me cept it was with hwinfo32 (10oC lower on it), I trusted the temps on coretemp more so i stuck to that, wen i primed my Q6600 @ 3.6 Max temp 70oC, Wen gaming it only went up to 60-65oC so I didnt have a problem with it

Hi ya,

65c is perfectly within thermal limits. If you're on the stock CPU cooler however I probably wouldn't expect an overclock of too much since you are going to be hitting 70 - 80 quite easily.

The reason why Coretemp shows your temperatures 10c higher than other programs is because the TJ Max is usually not set in Coretemp, whereas other programs do it automatically.
