I Need Help w/Metro 2033 Error Please

Thread Starter
I installed Metro 2033 yesterday on 6/4/2011 and everything was working perfectly except for a missing PhysX.dll file when I first tried to launch the game after it finished installing. I just installed the latest PhysX driver from NVIDA's site and rebooted my pc and it worked fine. But today I turned on my computer and tried to run Metro and now I get this message "Previous launch was unsuccessful. Would you like to start in safe mode?"

If I click no it loads and I can play it but even though I am getting 50-60 fps the game play is very choppy now for some reason (Very CHOPPY). It wasn't like this yesterday. Furthermore, after I play it for roughly 10 minutes the game crashes every single time. I get a black screen and I have to hard shutdown my computer and restart it because my entire system freezes. I play a whole lot of PC games and every other game runs perfect and might I add, so did Metro until today for some reason. Between the time I installed Metro to when it started acting like crap today I didn't change or install anything on my computer. I been searching everywhere on the internet for any useful information and have found others are experiencing the same issue but it seems that everyone is just stuck unable to play Metro because of this. All the information I found on the net hasn't worked and I been trying to fix this now for nearly 6 hours and I ran out of things to try. I already re-installed the game twice now and re-installing doesn't fix this problem. I have the latest PhysX driver also. My video driver is up to date - Catalyst 11.5b, and I also tried rolling back to Catalyst 11.5 and that also did not solve anything. I was using 11.5b the day I installed Metro and it was fine anyways. I have my CPU and video cards over clocked (which they are 100% stable-never had issues with them over clocked) and set everything at stock clocks but Metro still popped up with the error and then crashed after playing for about 10 minutes. My video cards are not over heating - Top reaches 66 C max and bottom reaches 61 C max. CPU never exceeds 44 C.

I have no clue as to what is going on, any help is greatly appreciated. I would like to play this game and enjoy its beauty and not its agonizing errors.

Thanks in advance drunken.gif

I had problems with this game and using the latest PhysX drivers. I fixed it by uinstalling the PhysX drivers I downloaded and instead installed the ones that are included with the game. You can find the driver in this location *:\Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install . Bear in mind that my problem with the game was slightly different to yours but I feel its worth a try anyways.

Well I just tried the most dumb thing ever and it seems that it may have actually worked. Upon starting Metro I kept getting an error message "Previous launch was unsuccessful. Would you like to start in safe mode?". I would press no and the game would run but eventually crash after 10 minutes of game play. Also besides crashing, the game would be very glitchy. Well I started the game got the error message and pressed no. Instead of playing and letting it crash I just pressed start and quit the game my self and not letting the game crash causing a premature exit.

After I quit the game and started Metro I no longer have the error message. I have been playing now for about a half hour and it seems perfect again. Pretty weird stuff. I cannot believe me quitting the game before it crashed out itself actually fixed this problem lol. I guess I will have to keep playing and find out, but my hopes are not too high at this point.

Well it seems that what I just posted actually fixed the problem haha. Wow I feel stupid now. But I never would have thought doing something that dumb would have fixed such a major problem that was occurring. Oh well, I can finally play the game again yay. And thanks again fashric for trying to help me.biggrin.gif

One more thing, I currently have a 30" monitor 2560x1600 res and was wondering if I bought a third 6970 would this game run smooth on very high video setting. I am currently playing the game on normal video setting, dx11, and my CF 6970's are running at 965 Mhz core and 1475 MHz memory and I get in the range of 45-60 fps.

Thanks
