Absolutely.

I had two 120 mm fans blowing intake from the front of the case, a 120 mm blowing exhaust behind the card, a 200 mm blowing up, and a 120 mm blowing intake to the side of the card, and the fans running on 100 percent when I was overclocking mine.

I would suggest to him then:

A 6950 with a good cooler: DCU, Twin Frozr, etc. The TF III unlocks.

Or even an HD 5870, although they are a nightmare to XFire, like 70% scaling.

I noticed you have 8gb of ram while your friend only has 4gb. Wouldn't crysis use up all of his 4gb of ram and resort to using hard drive page file??? this would explain the crappier frames per second.

No. Crysis uses no where near 4GB or RAM. There isn't a game out there that uses 4GB of memory

Well if you include the extra stuff running in the background in windows, you will exceed the 4gb of ram. I play SC2 with 8gb of ram and it uses 51% of the ram. My computer is pretty new and I don't have too much junk running yet. Also, wouldn't those benchmark programs use up more ram themselves too?

Crysis wouldn't eat that much RAM. Most I've seen it do is 1.5GB.

Why is everyone suggesting an expensive WC setup as the only option of improving the cooling performance? There are aftermarket coolers out there for the GTX 480 such as the Gelid Icy Vision which reduce the temperatures by good 10-15 degrees for 1/10 the price of a WC setup...
