only joking dude but we all know the 480 couldnt even successfully run its 512 cuda cores through heat and power usage issues. That does not mean it was well designed.
81c is not too warm for GPU's.

Also the guys GTX480 @ 92c was not too hot. The GTX480 only starts throttling at 105c

HIS CARD WAS NOT OVERHEATING.

My BFG 8800GT ran at 107ºC right out of the box.

Swapped TIM in both and the XFX never crossed 85ºC and the BFG sits at 75ºC right now.

Both were loud as freaking hell.

I have played with 480's and 470's, you may not have gotten the temps up that high with games but you put any stock reference 470/480 under an OCCT load and I guarantee you will see 90c+.

@Juliancahillane

Lots of people don't care about noise and or heat when performance is involved, most people actually game with noise canceling head sets on.

Everyone knows fermi's are hot and loud, they are performance cards. There are things you can do to reduce heat and noise and performance is one thing people will not compromise on.

OP, post detailed 3dmark comparisons of both. Not just the overall score but the breakdown of GPU/CPU scores ect. It will help show if the issue is with the videocard or something system related.

Fixed. I own GTX 480s, and, like AMD cpus, they do not perform well in any type of high heat load. You can't always go off rated specs. Real-world experience will always trump that.
