Picking out telephoto lens for canon t1i

Thread Starter
My camera is T1i I am looking to go telephoto in the budget of around 300 Bucks now. Looking for suggestions.

Someone recommended a great canon lens to me a day ago but since forgot someone owed me money so budget went from 200 - 300. So would like to see if I now have better options.

IQ is very important but don't mind sacrificing for a good 200-300mm zoom.

Sorry for taking up space but I have been searching all day long to no avail. Thanks for any ones time.

Pretty much. I had one for a couple weeks, it was alright. The IS worked well, although the rest of it left something else to be desired. For 199, great deal.

Yeah, It's not the sharpest, nor the sharpest, but for the price it's quite the deal. Although, I'd assume most people would end up upgrading in the long run.

If IQ is very important to you, you might want to save up for a few more months... there's probably nothing at that price range that you'll like if you're going to scrutinize full size images. You're going to get a lens with lots of distortion on either end and a lack of sharpness, IMO.

Are you assuming he's going to be viewing everything at 100%? The only time you need to be inspecting like that is when applying localized sharpening or other adjustments.

Nope.

The 55-250 is pretty good. It's no 70-200L, but it does have IS, is extremely inexpensive, and covers a wider range of focal lengths. Every lens is a compromise.

I might actually pick one up tomorrow to tide me over until I decided WTH to buy.

Telephoto
That's not a true telephoto, in my opinion. It's intended to be more of a walkaround lens.

It has too much overlap with your 18-55mm while not giving you much more beyond 55mm. I heavily suggest the 55-250mm IS mentioned above.
