Windows XP picture wont open in specific folders

Under Windows XP Pro SP3 my grandpas computer has an issue with one folder not opening pictures. His "My Documents" folder has all his pics, downloads etc, but double clicking on a picture (JPG mostly) results in the screen flashing and no picture opening.
In the "My Documents" folder he has a folder called "Stuff" which also has random files and pictures. This folder works fine and opens pictures correctly using "Windows picture fax viewer". Just for fun, I moved a picture from "My Documents" to the "Stuff" folder and it opened like normal.

Under "My Documents" I've looked in the folder options, assigned the picture and fax viewer under "open with" and still nothing. What would cause one specific folder to not open pictures, but they open fine under any other folder?

Thanks guys,

Click Start>Run then copy and paste or type in:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Click OK

Note that the spacing is important.
If that doesn't correct the problem try

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll
instead of regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Reboot. Then try again if still giving problems you can download the free"imgeditor.zip" utility. Unzip it and open it then checkmark the file extensions you want to open with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer then click the Repair associations button.

Tried it and it didn't work, but that's not saying the commands you posted don't work. It turned out to be a few files (.aif or something..?) causing all the pictures to not open. After I deleted all the "Junk" files, the pictures opened right up.

+rep for the help tho.

yeah. Acl files gets created when a file is stored. Now it has a set of permissions. Windows has a option to move the acl file with the file Or just copy the file without the permissions. Yours was on the latter hence it open when you moved it. was the file clearly visible from explorer?
