iPhone 4 Firmware and file recovery help

Thread Starter
So here we go...

Yesterday my buddy was updating his iPhone 4 running 4.2.2 to the new 4.2.3, later his computer went into sleep mode halfway during the update. So I believe the iPhone has no firmware and is stuck in recovery mode and I am also able to get it into DFU Mode. I'm trying to SSH it to recover pictures which is the main thing he wants back (he takes pictures of science equations and such that he's come up with). Is there any way to recover the data on it. oh and he's never backed it up....

I've tried to use winscp but it won't connect and ifunbox doesn't detect it.

Try iPhone Explorer. It's USB SSH, no Wifi needed.

try putting the phone in dfu, hook it up to tinyumbrella and tell it to exit recovery. if it failed halfway thru the upgrade your most likely going to have to just wipe and go up to 4.2.3. shsh only works when the phone is in os not recovery as its not formally supported by apple
