Whats a fast and quiet ~500GB sata 3 HDD

Thread Starter
I'm down to 1 HDD after my 400GB gave up (my fault)

my WD cavier black 640GB sata3 is good, and was ~$60 or 70, but like many people said, its a little too loud when its busy

so I'm looking for another sata 3 ~500GB that most everyone says is quiet, and is a good price

I can't get it for a while, so sales aren't important

EDIT: how important is the buffer size on these

Buffer size and SATA version are irrelevant.

Probably the best 500GB drive is either the Samsung F3 or the latest WD Black. Both are pretty evenly matched, so get whichever is cheaper (which will usually be the Samsung - and if you can stretch it the 1TB drive is usually only a few dollars more too).

the Revo Drives are the fastest and quietest drives i can think of as well as being incrediably expensive.

In terms of mechanical drives which I guess you meant by HDD then the beast pretty much summed it up.

I don't really need another 500GB for any reason

I might get a 250GB with 16MB cache, theres a few about like that for $40 which is perfect

The WD Caviar Blue is great.
I'm using a 500GB for my main drive and its working great.
Its Sata 2 (3.0GB/s) but harddrives don't even use the full speed of Sata 2 let alone Sata 3. If you're worried about ports, all the Sata connections work with each other.
Heres the link:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073
Its a little more than a 250GB but well worth it, not to mention its super quiet.
Its not the fastest bur running HD Tune now. You can compare to other drives in the sticky.
