Turn off cool and quiet and manually set your volts. Auto volts are no good,my bios set my vcore at 1.7v once when left to it own devices.
some load temps would be good too.

I will when I have a chance.

Right now it maxes out all my games and never screws up at all.

I think its the cool and quiet screwing with your OC.

3-4 hard drives on RAID 0 is cheaper than an SSD but remember your now looking at failure rates. The problem with SSD's lies in their flash lifespan, atleast thats what engineering taught me. Also - disable the cool and quiet - thats what a pro amd clocker keeps telling me

Just throwing this out there, back when I had my AMD Phenom II X4 setup it wouldn't seem as fast as it could be because of Cool N Quiet. I know it's a power saving feature that theoretically SHOULDN'T effect performance, but for me, it sorta did. To me, it seemed like it would be in power saving mode/low clocks and it'd have to sorta get a "kick" to wake itself up and move at full speed. When I took off Cool N Quiet, it ran at maximum speed all the time and everything was better.

Your E8400 & Q6600 may have been bottlenecked by other things such as RAM (i.e. FSB-DRAM divider is not consistent or even). AMD architectures since 2003 removed this potential performance limitation, allowing for a connection interface with significantly less latency.

What exactly are you implying in regards to Raid helping gaming or internet browsing? It will tax his cpu resources and decrease random access if you're not short stroking, so explain your recommendation. Raid only helps if you're tossing around massive sequential files, but not gaming or web browsing. An SSD would help, but RAID would be a total waste of money for him if not short stroked.

You'll see greater performance if you'd take advantage of the CHIV instead of just a simple multiplier OC.

I have a bios setup guide they may also help, if you'd like to see it just send me a PM.

You might consider something similar to this for a 4.0GHz setup,

CPU Ratio = 16
CPU Bus Freq = 250MHz
Dram Freq = 1667MHz
CPU/NB Freq = 3000MHz
HT Link Speed = 2000MHz
Manually enter Dram timing and Dram voltage
Manually enter CPU voltage
Manually enter CPU/NB voltage

This will definitely out perform your CPU multiplier only OC.

If you'd like any help feel free to PM me.
