[cnet] What is a Windows 8 PC? - Page 2

I´ve read UI Apps for Windows 8 will be based on HTML5.

That makes sense so only 1 APP for a x86 Desktop and the ARM based Handheld Device Possible.

But still no replacement for a full Desktop System for gaming with x86 CPU´s the main Content will still be there for Desktop Systems.

naw who am I kidding.. built in xbox360 game support.. bloat ware... stupid tile interface..
+1!

With all of the hype, and with Ballmer on the bandwagon - Win8 is bound to suck large. Expect it to be the featured OS on FailBlog...

Why is everyone bashing Windows 8 before it has even reached beta status, how do we know it will suck? I'd say wait until atleast the betas come out and people actually get to use it before saying it sucks.

Thats what people do here. They usually bash windows, but yet upon release, they'll buy it.

Same goes for Intel processors.

Ability to play Xbox 360 games on PCs is the only thing I'm interested in about Windows 8. If they drop that, then I really couldn't care less about this OS release. Only other thing I'm looking forward to is them finally dumping the horrid x86, this could well be the first OS built from the ground-up that they've released for what, decades?

What's wrong with the 360 game support? As for the "stupid interface" bit, that's a pretty ironic statement coming from the guy using an OS with a "stupid" Mac interface (that's what they called it before it came out). I bet next year you'll be one of the first ones to buy it and one of the preachers here telling us all to upgrade from 7 when it comes out...same goes for bloatware (I have yet to find a more bloated OS by default than 7).

Obviously, by simply looking at the statistics of Desktop PCs Sold (Billions) & Tablets Sold (10s of Millions), this is simply a move by Microsoft to test the waters (Put their foot in the pool) for Tablets...

Ideally, Microsoft is not planning to win over the masses (desktop / server users) with this new OS, but in the tablet market, this could be a win or a huge fail...

It's all about Proprietary Software really, the one thing that really sales Windows at all is the ability to use Custom Proprietary Software, where as users of Linux are pretty much at the mercy of the Open Source Software creators..

A locked / preset OS, like Apple Computers have, are successful because the user can purchase proprietary software and install it! The one major thing that Apple has over Open Source OSes like Linux is, Proprietary Software, but Windows excels Apple in the regard of Proprietary Software...

After all not many Proprietary Software makers build for Linux, Apple, and Windows, rather many of them only build for Windows, which is why Windows has such a huge footing in the Computer Industry, though Apple is gaining huge footings in profitability & value as a company (Stocks), Windows remains the premier choice as an OS for most of the known world because many proprietary software makers choose Windows.

So to cut this dissertation short, I'll say that either the masses will accept Windows 8 in the Tablet market or Desktop market, or they will ignore it, which in turn if they ignore it, it means Windows 8 will be a fail, not that it would Hurt Microsoft, not really.

The reason Microsoft can play like this is because most of their customers aren't us, the computer users, but the Manufacturers selling Retail PCs, Tablets, or what have you. Obviously looking back at Windows Phone, a huge fail, Microsoft is willing to take some gambles to attempt to gain footing somewhere, unfortunately at the cost to Manufacturers!

I think the biggest lesson Microsoft needs to learn is, too many cooks spoil the pot, or too much change is not good.. Look at BMW they have had the same looking car for many many years and they were extremely successful because of this, though they introduced new lines, they still kept the old ones. Microsoft would do well to keep the traditional Windows environment at all cost, because no business wants to pay to retrain employees to learn a new Operating System, no way!

I see Windows 8 as a new line of product from Microsoft, unfortunately it's not one I would care to check out being primarily a desktop user, nor do I think many businesses will accept windows 8 at all either, therefore this is a very limited endeavor by Microsoft which will most likely not end well, unfortunately. Obviously businesses aren't going to buy their employees a Destkop, a Notebook (or netbook), and a Tablet, unless of course they have lots of money to burn (write off)...
