Getting a 3.6ghz on my Q6600!!

Thread Starter
I always though I had a wall at 3.6 (9x 1600fsb) but recently ive been working with a 8x multi with 1800fsb, 800ram, unlinked and it seems to be passing short tests!

Is this normal?

Im sure I will need high voltages tho as my previous 3.37ghz (9x 1500) needed the following voltages :

Vcore : 1.48
FSB : 1.42
Mem : 2.10
SPP : 1.45
MCP : 1.52
HT: 1.35
PLL : 1.6

Im passing short tests @ 3.6 8x multi 1800fsb 800ram with the following voltages

Vcore : 1.53 - 1.55 seemed to work
FSB : 1.42
Mem : 1.8
SPP : 1.45
MCP : 1.55
HT: 1.35
PLL : 1.6

Let me know what u think

Not to forget spec :

Motherboard : Evga 780i FTW
Ram : Corsair Dominator 2x2GB
CPU : Q6600 1.3125 VID (Watercooled) G0 stepping

Not bad, I hit 3.6ghz with about 1.48-1.49.
I had the 800mhz ram at a 1:1 Ratio with the fsb.
That was back when I had a q6600 of course.

You using that OC for everyday use?

Found an old screenshot.

Looks like I had it at 3.5ghz with 8x multi.
The voltage is lower than I thought too, I think that was mainly because of vdroop.

I managed to get it almost stable at 1.49 vcore but had to bump it up 2 since it failed prime just over an hour. Now at 1.506!

Im looking at overclocking ram after. Atm its at 800mhz 5 5 5 18 2T 1.8v. Any idea's on what I could do .....

I wouldn't be going over 1.5v, if it's a one off thing just to see how far you can push it that's alright. But I wouldn't use it everyday at that voltage.

As a heads up you won't notice a significant performance difference when oc'ing ram.
You might be able to bump it about 50mhz, but remember oc'ing the ram via increasing the fsb also increases the core clock of the cpu.

My main advice would be only change one value at a time, that way if the oc fails you know why.

You have a bad q6600 like mine, depending on how much vdroop you have it will take 1.47-1.51 to get 3.6ghz stable. I would lower the fsb voltage to 1.3, and lower the mcp a few volts.

I don't think going over 1.5v is a good idea.

Good luck getting over 400 fsb stable on nvidia chipset. I never could.

You probably wouldnt need nearly as much vcore is you could find a GOOD mobo. Im sorry but nvidia motherboards sucked compared to intel series. I should know, I bought 650i, 680i, 750i and 780i. Only thing it had was SLI and x48 ,and maybe even x38 can be hacked to allow sli with no problems.

Do yourself a favor and scan ebay for used p35,p45, x38, or x48 motherboard.

Not only can they run much higher fsb, memory controller is much better and gives about 15-20 better performance at same clocks and ram speed.

You might as well save yourself the headache and the electricity cause you aint gonna get over 425 stable, and believe me, 450x8 is much faster than 400x9. Especially if you run your ram at 900 linked and synced. Almost any decent ddr2 800 kit can run 900 with 5-5-5-15 2t timings.

I had the same problem with an intel board m8. Atm my ram timings are at 800mhz 9:8 5- 4- 4- 12- 17 2t
