What's the verdict on RMA for this? Technically I didn't overclock the mobo, just the cpu and I didn't go over the VID for that CPU, which is in the supported cpu list. I've not done an RMA before so I'll need to look it up. If anyone cares to mention do I contact the seller or the manufacturer? I think its a non starter with no receipts!
Depends when you bought it, if it's after the first 90 days of purchase then I would call the manufacture. Also, have you tried a different PSU as well to make sure it's not your PSU that's causing you these issues.

I didn't realise it was such a crappy board. Lesson learned, no need to repeat how silly I was etc etc. In all my reading up on overclocking this is the first I've heard about VRMs.

I swapped the gigabyte for the evga 680i, same memory psu and cpu and all is well now ('cept I need to reinstall windows but that is OT). On that note, how sturdy is the 680i??? I think I'll remove the thermal tape for some artic silver on the vrms and NB/SB.

I tried the mobo on my spare psu with 2 other processors and it won't boot. That psu fan spins up when shorting out green/earth wires so I know it at least runs.

So yes, mobo is very much dead. If I cannot RMA it I can post it to anyone (UK) who can change VRMs for a cheap HTPC.

On a side note, I am splicing together a hand-me-down but thanks for not pointing out I should have bought a q6600 instead of the qx

Unless your vrm is socketed (so if it's not a G4 cube or a beige G3), I think that board just gets written off.

Slight necro.
Mobo definitely dead. e5300 that I tested the mobo with: dead. Coincidence? I think not.
