Sensationalism. The general public doesn't even consider the iPad a tablet. Its just an "iPad", and Android tablets are just "iPad-like devices that run Android"

So when Apple says they have 60000 or 90000 apps people compare that number to Android, since mentioning the iPad in an article gets you instant 50000 hits.

They conveniently forget that not only does pretty much every app work fine, the advanced features in Honeycomb more than make up for anything lacking. iOS needs apps because the OS is still basically the same 16 static icon layout that rolled out on the original iOS 4 years ago. It's taken Apple years to implement features that have been in Android since 1.0, and you probably won't see an iOS comparable to Android 3.0 for another 2-3 years.

iOS needs apps for web sites that just work in Android, especially the tablets like the Iconia and Transformer that accept mouse input. Taken in that light the stock Honeycomb browser probably counts for 40000-50000 "apps" alone!

You speak in terms of development, but you need to take perspective on what the general populace wants/uses.

The vast majority cares nothing about new layouts of icons or advanced features. They want something that WORKS. You can't argue the numbers of the iOS growth. If Android was innovating all this time, and they're honeycomb/froyo/donut was really that powerful/useful, they it'd be the majority share holder.

Why does it even matter? It's like you're having a shouting match with stuff no one cares about. It's just improvements to an OS, why must you say ANDROID DID IT FIRST!! So what if someone knows that or not, does not change their liking of iOS. :[ So much flaming

I don't like how ignorant the general populace is though. Its not that they don't want or need the features, its that they don't even know they exist. They aren't advanced features, they're just features.

Things like being able to see your notifications in one spot, being able to control not just the screen an icon is on, but where it is on that screen, being able to plug the device into your computer and copy files onto it without worrying about whether is the right type of file for iTunes, and for the love of Jeff CHANGING YOUR WALLPAPER!

All of these things are incredibly simple. They've been around as long as we've had UIs. But up until a year ago they were unheard of on iOS, and half of them are still impossible.

Not sure if you got it working but I'm watching the Keynote right now: http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.ne...iqubf06/event/

I'm much more impressed actually seeing it than I was reading about it. This is going to be amazing.

Just checking: Did you try watching the Keynote in Safari? I'm pretty sure that's the only browser that is able to play it.

You have no one to blame for the general populace not knowing about these features but Google, Moto, HTC, etc. They're advertising for their Android wares is such that it appeals to nerds only, what with the lightening bolts and phones shooting through tubes and exploding. Apple highlights what their devices do and no other fancy smancy nonsense. That much is at least true.

The App store on my iDevices has been updated to reflect that little pretty cloud. Having a button to find ALL the apps I've ever downloaded is extremely handy. And just checked out iTunes - ALLLLLL the music I've ever bought there is ready to re-download! This rocks.

<----------- Happy Apple Customer.
