Blocks for Powercolor AX6950 2GBD5-2DH

Thread Starter
So I just wanted to share the fruits of my research with you all.

After much research.. Emails back and forth with Various manufacturers of GPU blocks. I have discovered that the Powercolor AX6950 2GBD5-2DH uses a reference 6870 PCB. Based on comparisons with my PCB and the picture of a 6870 PCB that EK provided me in their response email. The PCBs are almost exactly identical minus mine not have a small screw hole in the top right corner which Im sure is where the cooler of the 6870 had screwed in. All the numbering on the PCB even matched. Both are labeled LF R699FA above the PCI-e connectors.

I will post pictures in this thread when I receive my Block in a week or so(Life permitting).

I had a similar problem looking for a WB for my 6950 after getting the same response that u did I ordered a ek block to find out that the 6870 WB actually did not work. Even after comparing pics and so forth. Ended up Havering to return the block and card and got a reference sapphire and xspc blk. Hope this helps so u don't go through the same crap I did

The top screw hole you didn't use it right? Did you actually do this? I thought you didn't cuz iirc you didn't in that one thread?

On paper everything matches up.

After taking apart my block and checking it against the 6870 it appears to be Identical, even the PCB is stamped the same LF R699FA above the PCI connector. The only difference I could find was literally a small screw slot in the top right of the 6870 (assuming where the original cooling setup screwed in). other than that everything else matched identically. Hopefully they will fit, if not I'm sure Frozencpu will be pretty accommodating about returning it!

Yea, it's just the screw between the mem at the top. Don't use it and on paper, should be golden.

The only other issue is the caps on the vrms. On the 6870 they are oriented on the right side and on the 6950 they are on the left side. There should clear the channel.

I also went with the Heatkiller GPU-X3 6870 blocks because they appeared to match up better based on the images I was able to find (its full coverage but shaped to avoid the capacitors).

I was looking to get the Heatkillers also, Didn't want to go with the EKs because of their nickel problem. Looking forward to what you find out.

Still looking at Wednesday or Thursday before delivery. Hopefully before Thursday as I need to run out of town for 5 days, and then I move around the 24th of the month. Fed Ex is not cooperating with my schedule, but as soon as they arrive and I'm home I'll put it all together!
