Was thinking, I get my money back on the card from amazon. Then sell my XFX 5850.

The take the money and buy a 6970 xfx.

Sounds like a fine idea, though if yer just gonna get a 6970 look at the other custom cards like Lightning or DCII.

Definitely get a refund. There are many unhonest sellers on amazon because many people don't usually look for amazon sellers' feedback. Btw, a xfx hd 6870 is only $167 after rebate @ newegg.com. Much better performance than hd 5850 anyway.

And don't get 6970, it's overpriced for what it can do compared to a 6950 1GB.

No, $180 for a 5850 is not overpriced. You're going to be hard pressed to find them for less than $200 unless the 7xxx series can show some serious hashing capabilities.

The Market for bitcoins recently spiked now that you can buy hookers and blow on the internet anonymously. Hence, the profit from hashing spiked. Hashing4hash

imho if it's a 5850 and you paid less than $200 and it works. Stop whining. Put it in and get it hashing or hang on to it and resell it for $200+ when they go out of stock again or now because they're out of stock now.

Something wierd is going on at googleshopping too because several sellers are trying to pass off pretty much any 5 series card as an ASUS 5850 under the only listing that hasn't gone over ~$200. If you shop for cards online, be very careful.

Also 6xxx isn't going to be much better at hashing than any 58xx. In fact, even at the recent price fluxes 58xx is still the best cash to hash value. Bad news if you wanted to get and old cheaper card to play newish games. Good news if you already did or wanted another reason to see 69xx cards drop in price.

This is also why the 5870 saw a ~$100 price spike on newegg and is the only 58xx card left there. Supposedly new shipments come in today.

Incidentally, also prepare for a wave of OC noobs asking how to OC and/or flash 58xx cards in linux safely. It'll be funny because you'll know this is what it's about.

My main concern with this card was not that it did not work, but that it was not as advertised. Also, since I have no way of knowing who the manufacture is, if I have a problem, I cannot RMA. I got a message back from the seller that refused to discuss this any further with me and I filed a claim with Amazon. The card has no marking on it just a flat black heat sink.
I am getting a full refund plus shipping costs back.
I learned a valuable lesson here today.
DON'T BUY FROM THIRD PARTY SELLERS.
Luckily I had Amazon to cover my ass when I made a stupid mistake.

Not all 3rd party sellers are bad guys.. I'm a 3rd party seller on Amazon and have had no issues (non pc related stuff). Could be the type of product though, my brother got screwed on a HTPC case from a seller, it ended up working out in his favor though.

Yea, it's not all sellers. There are also deals to be had on there, but you have to pay attention. I got a xfx 6950 2gb ref card w/ warranty for 226 shipped, lolz. It can work out well, just gotta cover your bases.
