I've been thinking of plating my HKs base plate, we'll see how this turns out.

Try refreshing a few times the pictures are massive. But basically it's machining that looks like it was done free-hand by Michael J Fox :S

He will be replating the block they tested from sidewinders. He talks about it here in his main plating thread http://www.realredraider.com/vbullet...=12253&page=12, though he will probably post it in all the EK related threads.

Dear Eddy,

The reason your nickle plated products are failing, among other things, is primarily because the 4 µm plating thickness used is not even thick enough to qualify for THE LOWEST ASM grade for for nickle plating.
Seriously, it doesn't even qualify as an anti corrosion coating per established standards.

On top of that, there is something going very wrong with the plating process that is causing the plating to be porous on at least one water block sample that has been the subject of macro photography.

Perhaps the reason no other manufacturers are having this problem is because they are applying a thick enough plating that it actually qualifies as an anti corrosion plating.

Because of how this situation has been handled by you, I will never purchase another EK product again, and will be recommending against EK products to others.

Have a nice day.

RRTEch does an extensive plating job. It costs more than the average run of the mill, but there is a lot that goes in it. I doubt I will get mine replated since I swap gear out too often, but I will not be buying EK in the near future, none.

I was just about to buy an EK nickel-acetal GPU block too...
Should I go with something different then?
Well, there quite a few methods to strip the nickel and have a copper block. A few ideas and methods have been tossed around my thread and I have volunteered to do my two month old ram block since I refuse to pay for EK's mistakes. I'll have some findings in a few weeks.
Uh, yeah!!! Get Aquacomputer, Heatkiller, Koolance or BP, but stay away from EK. This was strike two where they blamed the end user for an issue.

Kinda surprised no one else has mentioned this,
Does ek plan on reimbursing the cost difference between the nickel and copper blocks (on average about $10)? Or are we supposed to eat this cost as well as the shipping?
