stock i7 2600k reaching 95'c when running prime95

Thread Starter
Hy Friends,

Just bought i7 2600k with asus p8p67-pro mobo. band.gif

As i read that this baby can do 4.2 ghz easy with stock cooler so i just bought CM TF400 paste to cut down few degrees.

so i just removed stock paste from heat sink and applied (as i read is the best way of applying the thermal paste) two thin drops of CM TF400 at the middle of cpu and placed stock cooler over it.

Now i decided to test the temps on stock speeds, so i ran prime 95. I was surprised to see that temps shoot to 95'c and clocks reach 4.43 ghz within 15 sec of test!!!confused.gif

i didn't touch any setting in bios, everything is at default. still my cpu is reaching 4.43 ghz(i thought its turbo boost is 3.8 ghz)thinking.gif

link to screenshot proof.gif : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/capturedlh.png/

so friends plz help, im new to intel i7s, are there any settings in bios that i need to modify to ensure temps stay within limits and my baby don't cross its limits tongue.gif at least on stock cooler?

What is the difference in temps between cores? How did you remove the stock TIM? Reset CMOS and try again.

It sounds to me like you may have hit the auto-OC function in your board and it way overvolted your CPU.

That is way to hot!!! Make sure that you have the stock Intel cooler seated correctly. Sometimes they are a bit finicky to get locked down!

Well, 1.3V is quite a lot for the stock cooler so the 90*C does not surprise me at all. I don't know what triggered it though.....

Try to reseat the fan, use a dot of paste on the middle. Also here is a nice thread about overclocking using your board http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=265398

That's extremely warm even for the stock cooler. First port of call is a remount of the stock cooler. Make sure it's sitting nice and snug and don't use too much paste.

Also as mentioned above reset CMOS so you are sure everything is running at stock values.

That's what i thought in the beginning, to make sure i removed heat sink and installed it again as per instructions given in manual (I must admit installing intel coolers is lot more complicated then amd ones).

there is no difference in lode temps after i installed heat sink again.

how do i reset cmos?

these are my idle temps: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/62/capture10x.png/

Are these idle temps high? I mean if heat sink is still not properly installed then temps will always be high weather under load or not? Am i right
