HEC/Cougar CMX 700 recommendation?

Thread Starter
Looking to get the HEC/Cougar that will be on sale later today.
how is this PS? Couldn't find any reviews on the net.
Anyone own this unit here?
Particularly interested in the 12V ripples.

I will probably be getting this PSU as well. Unfortunately, I've only found 1 review, and it's in German (here).

I would also like to know more about this PSU.

Regardless, it didn't look like that review did any load testing. You can read ripple measurements and see the voltage regulation in any language though. There's a review of the 550W variant. Ripple is unlikely to be higher on the 700W variant up to 550W. Above 550W, it's hard to say.

It looks like some budget group regulated design. Performance is okay but nothing special, aside from very good +12V regulation (with the loads they tested).

I was about to put: Anyone have an opinion on this? Shellshocker: Couger 700w $60 after MIR In another thread, then saw this one. I see we all want to know!

Judging by the newegg reviews (I know, I know) Either the Couger's fan doesn't kick on untill a certain temp (most likely) or just is always defective, lol. Also lot's of complaint's about fan noise (when it does work)

Also not completely modular.

I just did the exact same thing...Hope all goes well; I've heard that the manufacturer (HEC) is slightly different than the HEC that's based in Europe, but I'm hoping for the best.

I bought the CMX700 for one of my Phenom rigs and was money well spent! Good looking box with all the trimmings and a quality psu tucked inside. Sleeving is very well done and lots of connectors are included. If you can find it on sale, go for it!

Just an update: I got it, it worked great for about a week (good cooling, looks nice without looking garish, great cable management, etc.), and then it died. RMA'ing it with Newegg. I'm getting it replaced, so I hope it was an isolated incident, but having to pay $18 to ship it across the country is a pain-in-the-ass, nonetheless.
